Biology Semester I Project
Name:______
Date:______
Period:____
Project Overview: (copy and paste this description on your homepage of your website)
Students will in small groups (3-4) construct a website using This website will incorporate various Web 2.0 tools to support students’ mastery of the 1st semester major topics/standards. The students will select one topic/content standard from semester 1 and build/organize a website with the following requirements: multimedia resources, online tutorials, standard/content explanation, review games, practice test questions. They will gather these resources using internet search engines. Students will then publish the website to share it with other 9-10 grade Biology students.
Potential Topics: Investigation and Experimentation, Cell Biology, Genetics, Evolution.
Standard(s):
- Standard IE: Investigation and Experimentation:Scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting careful investigations. As a basis for understanding this concept and addressing the content in the other four reporting clusters, students should develop their own questions and perform investigations.
- Standard 1: Cell Biology: The fundamental life processes of plants and animals depend on a variety of chemical reactions that occur in specialized areas of the organism’s cells
- Standard 2: Genetics-Meiosis and Fertilization: Mutation and sexual reproduction lead to genetic variation in a population.
- Standard 3: Punnett Squares and Mendel’s Laws: A multicellular organism develops from a single zygote, and its phenotype depends on its genotype, which is established at fertilization.
- Standard 4: Protein Synthesis: Genes are a set of instructions encoded in the DNA sequence of each organism that specify the sequence of amino acids in proteins characteristic of that organism.
- Standard 5: Genetic Engineering and Structure/Function of Genetic Material: The genetic composition of cells can be altered by incorporation of exogenous DNA into the cells.
- Standard(s) 7&8: Evolution: The frequency of an allele in a gene pool of a population depends on many factors and may be stable or unstable over time. Evolution is the result of genetic changes that occur constantly in changing environments.

Requirements:
- Complete Parts I-VII.
PartI. Proposal- Develop a proposal in the space below by answering the following questions. Make sure to include this section on your website.
Which content area/standard do you need to learn more about based on your first semester performance (Benchmarks or class data)?Which content area/standard would you like learn more about from 1st semester? (Benchmarks or class data)?
Which topic are you comfortable teaching to other students?
Which standards are related to this topic?
Which materials would help student’s best learn this content?
What ideas do you have for how to design your website?
Part II. Standard Summary/Explanation-
- Post the standard on your website.
- Summarize the standard in your own words so that a 9th-10th grader could understand it.
- Identify and define key vocabulary.
Part III. Visual Aides-
