A RESOLUTION memorializing Pulaski County Sheriff Sam Catron and adjourning the Senate in his honor.

WHEREAS, Sheriff Sam Catron had served the citizens of Pulaski County as sheriff since his election in 1985; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Sam Catron had served in the field of law enforcement for 25 years, before his term as sheriff, serving as a deputy and also as police chief in the town of Ferguson, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Sam Catron followed a family tradition of law enforcement started by his well-respected father, Harold Catron; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Sam Catron has, throughout his career in law enforcement, earned the respect of his peers, as well as the citizens he has protected over the years, and has earned the reputation of being exceptionally dedicated to law enforcement, and has been characterized as being the best sheriff in the past 30 years to serve in Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Sam Catron's tireless efforts in the office, such as working until early hours of the morning, assisting with firefighting, and piloting helicopters in search of controlled substances earned him the title of Sheriff of the Year; and

WHEREAS, on Saturday, April 13, an act of cowardice robbed Sheriff Sam Catron of his life and deprived the citizens of Pulaski County and the Commonwealth of Kentucky of the benefits of his continued excellent public service, and, as importantly, his friendship and love;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its sincere condolences to the family of Sheriff Sam Catron and affirms that the profound and senseless loss of Sheriff Sam Catron will be felt by the entirety of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Section 2. The Senate, while mourning the loss of Sheriff Sam Catron, does hereby laud Sheriff Sam Catron for his more than 25 years of service to the citizens of Pulaski County and the citizens of Kentucky and holds his dedication and professionalism as a sterling example to all the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Section 3. That when the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in memory and honor of Sheriff Sam Catron.

Section 4. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit two copies of this Resolution to Mrs. Jennie Rachel Catron and Sheriff Jim McWhorter in care of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, P.O. Box 752, Somerset, Kentucky 42502.
