Chili Appreciation Society International, Inc.
42nd Annual Terlingua International Chili Championship
General Information Pamphlet
CASI welcomes you to the 2008 Terlingua International Chili Championship. We provide this General Information Pamphlet in the hope that it will make your stay in the Terlingua area as enjoyable as possible. If you need additional information or assistance, please do not hesitate to ask the nearest CASI Director. Let's all have a good time!
Emergency Phone: 432-371-2545
Emergency Services available at Rancho CASI City Hall
An answering machine will serve this number, and we will maintain a message board on the fence at the judging area.
Parking
Your first priority upon arrival at the Rancho CASI de los Chisos will probably be the parking of your motorhome, camper or portable shelter. PLEASE PARK IN THE APPROPRIATE AREAS AND PLEASE PARK CLOSE TOGETHER SO THAT WE CAN ACCOMMODATE AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE. We also ask that you refrain from saving areas for later arrivals. We all want to park in the main area, and parking spaces are on a first come, first serve basis. If you need assistance with parking, please contact any CASI Director. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!
Camping in the arroyo is very risky and is forbidden! Please do not camp there.
Help us control the dust! Speed Limit - 10 MPH
ICE available at the CASI Concession or Krazy Flats
Rancho CASI de los Chisos Rules
We are all here to have a good time and enjoy ourselves, and we all like to see as few rules as possible. In this spirit we have kept our list of rules to a minimum, but we believe that the following rules are essential. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
TRASH - Trash dumpsters have been located throughout the area. Please put your trash into these dumpsters and help us keep the grounds as clean as possible.
VIP PARKING AREA - As you approach the main area of the cookoff, you will see a parking area designated "VIP PARKING". Do not park in this area if you are not authorized to do so. IF YOU DO PARK IN THIS AREA AND YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO DO SO, YOUR VEHICLE WILL BE TOWED AT YOUR EXPENSE!
REGISTRATION – Photographic identification must be presented to register to cook chili and perform showmanship.
CAMPFIRES - Please tend your campfires and extinguish them when you are ready to call it a night. Remember that there is limited water in the area to control fires. Please refrain from starting any large fires, and remain aware of the unpredictable wind and its ability to spread fires.
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT PUT CANS OR GLASS BOTTLES IN CAMPFIRES.
NOISE - Be considerate of those around you. The Golden Rule applies here.
CIGARETTES - Please do not throw your cigarette butts on the ground. As you know, they are not biodegradable and will remain on the ground for the rest of time. Help us keep our grounds clean and dispose of your cigarette butts properly. Bring a butt can, and encourage its use.
TRAFFIC - Traffic in the cooks’ area will be restricted. Vehicles will not be allowed to cruise through the area repeatedly. Please help us with this rule. This is the only way we can keep the dust down and minimize the risk of somebody getting hurt. Most of us are drinking and partying, so let’s stay on foot when possible.
Four-Wheel Drive Vehicles and ATVs - These vehicles must adhere to the same rules as general traffic. Under no circumstances will ATVs be permitted on the hillsides around the judging, concession or stage pavilions. All vehicles must travel on marked roads (not trails) only. The speed limit throughout the Rancho is 10 MPH.
COMMUNICATIONS - All CASI Directors and selected support people will be carrying two-way radios so we can react quickly to situations. These radios should also make the CASI Directors quite visible – do not hesitate to seek assistance.
PROHIBITED AREAS – As you come through the first gate, the hill to your left leads behind the judging, concession, and stage pavilions, and then past the Old 320 Cooking Area. This hill is positively off-limits to any type of camping and any type of motor vehicle access. If you must conquer this hill, DO IT ON FOOT.
FOR THE SAFETY OF EVERYONE - While on the grounds, we ask that you refrain from the use of firearms, fireworks, explosives, cannons or any device that might have the potential of causing injury to others. Please remember that we have a lot of people and motor vehicles in a small area and the consequences of an accident resulting from the use of these type devices could be severe.
