Schooled – Character Analysis Project
Project Description
After reading the novel Schooled, you should have a thorough understanding of the characters portrayed in the story. In order to demonstrate your understanding of the characters and plot, you will choose one character and assume their personality to create a cell phone that they may have had. Your cell phone will include a lock screen, a home screen, apps, an Instagram post, contacts, text messages, and a playlist that fit the character’s personality and the story line of the novel. Your project should demonstrate a thorough, thoughtful analysis of your character using textual evidence.
Guidelines
Choose one character. Download the Character Project Template. Include apps, pictures, messages, etc. that fit with the character’s personality and the plot as it relates to that character. On each slide, be sure to explain why you included each item using evidence from the text. The following should be included in your project:
- Title Slide: Include your name, the title of the project, and the character that you chose.
- Lock Screen: Include a background picture that your character might have on his/her phone. Include an explanation of why you chose the image.
- Home Screen: Include wallpaper for your character’s home screen. Include at least four apps that your character might have. (Think about your character’s interests!) Explain why you chose the wallpaper and each app.
- Contacts: Include a list of three contacts (other characters in the book) that your character would have in his/her phone. Make up phone numbers for them. Provide an explanation of the relationship between your character and each contact.
- Text Message Conversation: Write a text message conversation that your character might have with another character in the book. This can be actual dialogue that occurs in the story, or it can be a conversation that you invent based on what happens in the novel. Be sure to use language that the characters would use! Include an explanation of this conversation’s importance in the story and/or its importance in understanding the character.
- Instagram Post: Create an Instagram post for your character. Include a picture and a comment/caption. Be creative! Explain how this post reflects what is going on in your character’s life.
- Playlist: Include at least three songs and artists that reflect your character’s personality and inner thoughts/feelings. Provide an explanation of why you included each song.
- Character Traits: As your final slide, include a bulleted list of three personality traits that could be attributed to your character. Provide textual evidence for each trait.
