A Workshop on Vendor Management

Course Overview:

Working with multiple vendors on your company’s benefits can sometimes feel like a double-edged sword. Vendors are there to help, but managing several of them can be overwhelming, as well as tying up your resources. It takes effort to smooth vendor management, but it’s worth it. Vendor relationship management has become a necessary component for businesses today. Purchasing departments are recognizing the need to transition from buyers to relationship strategist.

However, one size does not fit all. Cultures are different. Staffing, markets and cost structures are not the same from company to company. Some companies are international. Others are domestic. Private settings and public settings differ. Yet, while there are apparent differences, there are some basic processes and disciplines that can be adapted and deployed by all.

Course Objectives:

•Establishing a context for vendor management within procurement

•Understanding of the Procurement Life Cycle

•Identifying procurement requirements in projects

•Evaluating, selecting and monitoring suppliers

•Understanding the basics of a contract

•Managing the ongoing contract

•Negotiating with vendors

•Final acceptance and administrative closure

Audience:This workshop is recommended for all team members responsible for successful project delivery when managing vendors is required. That includes, but is not limited to, the following roles: Project Managers, Business Analyst, Product Owners and Contract Administrators.

PDUs Earned:8 PDUs (4 technical, 2 leadership, 2 strategic) or 8 ACP (4 technical, 2 leadership, 2 strategic) or 8 PBA (4 technical, 2 leadership, 2 strategic).

Class Schedule: This is an 8-hour seminar that will be conducted on Saturday, November 11th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Lunch will be provided.

Presenter:
Mike Turner has been active in project management field for the last 20 years as both a manager and a trainer. He is currently a Project/Program Manager for AMC. Mike attained his PMP in 2003 and has taught prep courses for the exam. Since 1997 Mike has been an Adjunct Professor at the Keller Graduate School of Management teaching several courses in Project Management, Quality and Information Technology Management. In 2009, Mike attained his Scrum Master Certification from the Scrum Alliance and has also been a featured speaker at the PMI-Kansas City Chapter Annual Conference. He received his ACP from PMI in 2014.
