HONORARY DIPLOMAS
TERMS OF REFERENCE AND PROCEDURES
MANDATE:
Based on the support and recommendations of the Saskatchewan PolytechnicSenior Management Assembly during the annual fall SMA event, and nominations received from Sask PolytechEmployees throughout the year, the Presidentdetermines the Honorary Diploma Recipient(s)annuallyand provides notification of the selected recipients to the Saskatchewan PolytechnicBoard of Directors.
TERMS OF REFERENCE:
Honorary diplomas may be awarded to persons who have made a significant contribution to education, business and industry, or government, and who are supportive of Sask Polytech’s vision, values, and overall role in the local and provincial communities.
The guiding principles of the recommendation process are to recognize the quality of Sask Polytech programs by bringing honour and prestige to the organization, and to strengthen, enhance and recognize the importance of our convocation ceremonies.
GUIDELINES:
The following guidelines will assist the President during deliberations:
All nomination documents and recommendations by the Senior Management Assembly and by Sask PolytechEmployees regarding the Honorary Diploma shall remain confidential.
HONORARY DIPLOMA:
Selection Criteria:
The honorary diplomamay be used to honour individuals for distinguished achievement or contribution, and whose receipt of such an award will bring honour and distinction to Sask Polytech,as well as to the recipient.
An honorary diploma may be awarded to an individual who is supportive of Sask Polytech’s vision and values.
An honorary diploma may be awarded to an individual whose distinguished achievement or contribution is widely recognized.
An honorary diploma may be awarded to an individual who has made a significant contribution to education, business, industry, the community or government.
There is no restriction in where honorary diploma candidates may be located; it is not restricted to Saskatchewan residents.
Distinguished alumni may be considered as Honorary Diploma recipients.
Number and Awarding of Honorary Diplomas:
Typically, one honorary diploma for each Sask Polytech Campus may be awarded each year. The diploma would be presented by the President at the campus Convocation Ceremony.
A letter of congratulations is sent from the Sask Polytech President and CEO toeach successful nominee, with directions and details of the local contact and/or Event Coordinator for further information.
Where necessary and/or appropriate, a letter will be sent from the Sask Polytech Presidentand CEO to each of the unsuccessful nominees commending them on their nomination.

Recommendations:
The approved recipient of a Sask Polytech honorary diploma will be invited to be the Guest Speaker at theConvocationCeremonies.
If the honorary diploma recipient chooses to decline the invitation to serve as Guest Speaker,they will be provided an opportunity to respond at the ConvocationCeremony uponreceiving the award.
The honorary diploma will be presented at the Campus ConvocationCeremony. The recipient must be present to receive the award, unless accepted by a family member in the case of the granting of a posthumous award.
