Guidelines for PL Funding

An applicant for PL Funding must be an active member of PEOT (Constitution Article IV, Section 1, 4.1.1) and have finished their 40 day probationary period as per the Board’s requirements and PEOT Collective Agreement.

PD funds may be used for the following purposes:

a)Registration Costs (maximum $200 per every two year period (PEOT fiscal year: July 1st – June 30th).

  • This cost could include workshops, conferences and AQ courses offered by either Universities or ETFO.
  • Half of the budgeted funds available will be allocated to our members from July 1st to December 31st. The other half will be allocated to members from January 1st to June 30th.

b)Replacement Occasional Teacher (STO) Costs – This is only available for applicants on an LTO assignment (OT daily rate – for a maximum of two consecutive days per school year – August to June). (August applies to Roberta Bondar and Roy McMurty only).

c)Professional Resource Book Funding – (maximum of $25 every two year period (PEOT fiscal year – July 1st – June 30th). Professional resource books include: instructional books, e-books, digital resources, teachers manuals, other books for professional use and/or learning. Professional resource book funding will not cover: magazines, novels, fiction books, comic books andmanipulatives. All reimbursements for professional resource book funding are subject to the PL funding committee’s review and approval. PEOT reserves the right to decline and or restrict funding application. Only an original purchase invoice/ receipt will be accepted(N0 photocopies will be accepted) along with a photocopy of the front and back book cover.

PD funds are not available for;

  • university courses that are not specifically AQ courses, college courses or ETFO credit courses
  • a member who is specifically requested by the Board, Superintendent or Principal to attend a conference, workshop, course or retreat
  • please note that travel/accommodation expenses are not covered by PL Funding
  • non professional resource books, etc. as described in section c)
  • courses or workshops with religious affiliations of any kind

The “Professional Learning Application Form” can be downloaded and printed from the PEOT website.

All applications must be completed in full. Incomplete forms will not be considered. (Please ensure that all signatures, including those of the Principal, if required, are present on the applicable forms before sending to the PEOT office).

Applications for funding must be made prior to attending a conference/workshop/course. There are no retroactive approvals. Deadlines will be strictly enforced. (See deadlines below)

Applications will be considered in the order in which they are received. The member is only eligible once in every two school years.

The degree of financial aid, when combined with assistance from the Board and other sources, cannot exceed 100% of the costs.

Instructions for Applying for Workshop / Conference / AQ Course

  1. Please submit a copy of your conference/workshop/course description, proof that you are registered, along with a copy of the PL Funding Application form to the PEOT office by mail, courier or FAX.

You will receive notificationof yourapproved or declined application in the mail.

Funds for approved applications shall be paid by PEOT to the member after completion of the activity, and upon submission of:

1)the original receipt of payment of the activity’s registration,

and

2)proof of attendancefrom the activity organizers (copy of certificate, or other verification of completion of the event),

provided such information is received within 30 days of completion of the activity.

If PEOT does not receivethe original receipt of payment of the conference registration within 30 days of the completed activity, you will not be reimbursed for the registration fee. In addition, a member on an LTO assignment may be billed for the replacement Occasional Teacher cost.

Applicants: please DO NOT send any forms to Peel District School Board.

Long Term Occasional Teachers

If you plan to attend a conference/workshop/courseand require a replacement Occasional Teacher (STO), you must have your principal sign Section B of the ‘PEOT PL Funding Application’ form.

The Principal’s signature MUST be on the above form before sending it to the PEOT office or the application will be declined.

The Principal, having signed the forms, will receive a copy of a declined application for their records. PEOT will not reimburse registration payment, nor cover the cost of a replacement Occasional Teacher, if you choose to attend an activity that we have declined.

Deadlines

The 2012- 2013submission deadline dates are:

21 days prior to the start date of the of the workshop / conference / AQ course

If you are attending a workshop, conference or AQ course in July, Augustor September, the deadline for all applications will be June 15, 2013. However, AQ courses beginning in September 2012 will be due no later than September 15, 2012.

Completed applications must be received at the PEOT Office by noon on the above dates.

All incomplete applications will be automatically rejected at the deadline date.

Application forms are non-transferable from one conference to another.
