The regular meeting of Paul Stewart Irwin Post No. 136 was called to order by Commander Steve Coberley at 7:00 PM in the post home. An opening prayer was offered by First Vice-Commander, Susan Lee, followed by the members reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble to the American Legion Constitution. A short recognition ceremony for the POW/MIA's of our country was conducted.
There were 30 Legion, 2 S.A.L., 1 Aux/ALR members in attendance.
Guest Speaker. Sgt. Tuinei and Sgt. Coleman from the 22nd Command Squadron at McConnell AFB presented information about a memorial walk at McConnell that they and their colleagues are trying to update and refurbish. They are in need of support to put flags by all the plaques and add benches along the walk. Rob Brown moved to purchase two gross of 8x12 inch flags from Emblem Sales. Tom Knight seconded. Motion passed.
Minutes of the April Meeting. Minutes were posted on the bulletin board and also posted on the Post Web Site. No additions or corrections. Approved as Written.
Finance Report. The Adjutant presented the Adjutant Fund, Petty Cash, and Bldg. Maintenance Fund finance reports. Rick Babinger of the BOG gave the Canteen Report. Finance Officer, Diana Nelson, gave the General Fund account report.
New Members: No applications for membership were presented for consideration.

Correspondence: Call to Convention - DEPARTMENT CONVENTION IN MAY: Will be held in Topeka, we get 9 voting delegates to that meeting. Dates are May 19 – 21, 2017. We need to preregister so anyone interested in being a delegate please notify the Adjutant.
American Legion Leadership College – fee for Post Officers who have never been to ALLC will be paid by the Post. All members are encouraged to attend. At this time we have five members planning to attend.
Reports: Legion Riders: Monthly meeting will be Sunday, May 7 at 3:00 PM.
Patriot Guard: No report
Sons of the American Legion: Next meeting will be May 7 at 1:30 PM. The Mountain Oyster and Fish Fry was a success. They hope to make this a yearly event the first Saturday after Easter.
ALR and SAL both reported that the Marauders Car Club will have a car show at the Kansas Star Arena and has requested a flag line.
Ladies Auxiliary: A list of items needed for the TLC at the Robert J. Dole Veteran’s Hospital was passed out.
Old Business:
Parking Lot: Phil Horner has recommended that the project be put on hold until enough money is raised to do all the area around the building at once. This will save money and time as each segment will cost approximately $5K. All agreed it would be prudent to wait until at least $15K is saved for the project to begin. At this time there is $7,548.50 saved toward that project.
Commander reminded all that anyone who has not paid their 2017 dues is delinquent. Please pay immediately.
New Business:
With the State Convention fast approaching, delegates need to be identified and transmitted to Department of Kansas. Notify the Adjutant if interested in being a delegate.
The Mulvane Old Settlers Committee meets at the Post the third Wednesday of the month. A representative from the Post is needed to attend the meetings. With the 2nd Vice-Commander unavailable due to recent knee surgery, the 1st Vice will attend. Also, someone is needed to run the Horseshoe contest and the downtown booth during Old Settlers.
Plans for the Memorial Day service were discussed.
Ed Watson was elected to fill the open At-large E-board position.
Upcoming Events
Following the meeting help will be needed to move the tables and chairs from the bar area so the carpet can be cleaned in the morning. Help will be needed again to move the items back to the bar before it can open at 2:00 PM.
Breakfast at the Post every Sunday starting at 9:30 AM. All members and guests are invited to attend.
Cemetery work day, postponed from April 30 due to weather, will be May 7 at 11:00 AM.
Set out crosses and flags on graves Friday May 26 at 5:00 PM.
Memorial Day services at the Mulvane Cemetery on May 29. Meet at the Post at 5:30 AM on Monday, May 29 to set out the Avenue of Flags at the cemetery. Meet back at the Post at 10:00 AM. ALR will provide 10-12 motorcycles; Sgt-at-Arms, Chuck Vrana, will need 5-6 members for the Rifle Squad; Cmdr. Coberley will need help setting up the circle; Rick Babinger will play TAPS; Chuck Vrana will read “Flanders Field” with the response read by Deb Herndon; Gene Bradbury will handle the Soldier’s Cross; the guest speaker is still being worked out. There are two possibilities at this time. Ron Herndon will read the names of those whose flags are flying in the Avenue of Flags.
Meet at the Post on Wednesday at 6:00 PM to fold and put away the flags.
The next BOG and E-board meeting will be moved to Tuesday, May 30 at 6:00 PM due to the Memorial Day holiday.
The new Mulvane Patriots baseball team will have their first game at the Sports Complex on Tuesday, May 30. They have requested some bikes with flags to open the season.
For Good of the Legion
Susan Lee announced that she is now the administrator of the Facebook page.
Commander requested anyone who is not receiving emails please notify him as he has received a number of failures due to bad email addresses.
Adjutant requested that anyone who would like to pay their 2018 membership dues, especially Life members, by the end of May, please contact her so those cards can be turned in at ALLC the first weekend in June.
International Female Ride Day is May 6.
Anyone who notices one of the flags at the front of the building needing to be replaced, please do so. It is everyone’s responsibility.
Doug Lehman volunteered to take care of the sign at the driveway entrance (not the electronic sign).
Having no further business to come before the members, the First Vice-Commander offered a closing prayer.
The meeting adjourned at 8:25PM by Commander SteveCoberley with the next meeting scheduled for June 5, 2017.
