ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF NCC REPRESENTATIVESDescription: The general membership of the NCC is comprised of NCC Representatives and NCC Alternates. These individuals are members of their local PRC community committee and are selected by their PRC to represent their center and communities on the NCC.
Deliverable / Description of Progress
Develop an annual orientation process for NCC members. / NCC Communication Committee has developed an orientation power point; representatives viewed it at the NCC Annual Planning Meeting in 2010 in Seattle, WA. NCC Archives will post the current PPT orientation for new NCC members.
The NCC completed a communication survey while at the Annual Planning Meeting in Seattle. During our discussion most new members found the archives to be helpful. Several expressed issues logging in (case sensitive, cannot cut and paste password).
We, the Communication Committee, will work to enhance the PPT to be interactive with links of items on the archives, clarify roles of NCC/Alternative members, and include attendance listed in Operating Procedures. We will create a glossary of acronyms. We will ask James to create a space specific for regions on the archives. We will explore the option of creating a Facebook page where NCC members can share challenges and celebrate successes.
ADVOCACY FOR COMMUNITY-BASED PARTICIPATORY RESEARCH
Description: The NCC is working collectively to sustain health and prevent disease in communities by advocating for and supporting the use of the community-based participatory research (CBPR) model. We want to promote and publicize successful PRC projects that use CBPR to improve health outcomes in communities to funders, governmental and legislative organizations, and academia.
Deliverable / Description of Progress
Develop a plan to promote CBPR to funders, universities, and governmental & legislative organizations. / We discussed the definition of Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR). There are several definitions CCPH, Kellogg Health Scholars, PRC Program. The NCC will need to adopt a definition so we can begin to promote it. We would like to review the PRC Program definition (we could not find it on the website). Once the NCC has adopted a CBPR definition we would like it included in the PPO document.
Develop a plan to promote and publicize successful PRC projects that used CBPR to improve health outcomes in communities. / We want to help each NCC member develop an “elevator speech” to describe their projects. We want to create a one page story written from the community’s perspective. We will ask James if he can help us create a template.
Ideas were shared about creating a blog or Vlog (video log) to share what we are doing.
We discussed finding publications that will help us share our stories. We would like to have a list of researched the NCC endorse and we would like to do a literature review and post to the archives positive examples of CBPR.
We would like to create a call for articles for CBPR. We could connect with CCPH about their criteria and review process. We liked the idea of the using a Facebook page to share our stories and publications.
Our next meeting will be November18, Call in # 1-866-830-1012 Pass Code 9805872#
