Third Sunday of Easter
Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41; Revelation 5:11-14;
John 21:1-19 [48C]
“But Peter and the apostles said in reply, ‘We must obey God rather than men. The God of our ancestors raised Jesus, though you had killed him by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as leader and savior to grant all repentance and forgiveness of sins. We are witnesses of these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him. ”
“Cast your net over the right side of the boat and you will find something.”
The sermons of Peter in the book of Acts predate the Gospel accounts as we have come to know them. Before we learn about the teaching of Jesus, we come to know the Person through the preaching of the first of the apostles. Evangelization is proclaiming the name, the person, the Paschal Mystery, and then the doctrine of Jesus Christ. The description by Peter reflects an awareness of the Holy Spirit guiding him. Twice he speaks of obedience and in a poetic way describes the crucifixion as a hanging on a tree.
The dying and rising of Jesus was to lead people to repentance and forgiveness. The reason for Jesus’ coming is found in these two words, leading to reconciliation. May we too seek the gifts which He won for us.
Perhaps we can cast our nets again to discover and appreciate Jesus who is both our leader whom we follow and our savior whom we embrace.

I am the lady of the Rosary; pray the rosary every day.”
(Fatima, Sept. 13th, 1917)
Pope John Paul II has called on us all to deepen our appreciation of our Christian Faith by using the Rosary as an ideal means of meditating on the life and works of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Traditionally there have been fifteen mysteries of the Rosary – five joyful, five sorrowful and five glorious. At the Holy Father’s suggestion, a new set of five ‘luminous mysteries” have been added. The Altar Rosary meets at every second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Library. Come pray the rosary together with us.
