Check Harmony for assignment and grade updates.

Math grades will be based on the following weighted scale:

Daily Assignments ------20%

Most assignments will come from the textbook. All work must be shown in order to get full credit for any homework assignment. A”0” with an “NT” in the grade book means no assignment was turned in. An “NC” next to any assignment means it was not completed. Late assignments will be accepted but will be deducted one letter grade for each day it is late. Any student who has chronic late/missing/incomplete assignments may be subject to a detention or a Friday school.

When completing homework, students need to remember their entire heading, labeled and circled answers, work, and a neat paper! Each problem should have at least two finger spaces between them.

Tests------50%

Tests may be multiple choice, essay, or short answer. All applicable work must be shown!

Quizzes/Binders------20%

Quizzes will usually be given after every few lessons. All work must be shown for complete credit.

Binders will be graded on a regular basis. Students should have five sections consisting of notes, homework, quizzes, tests, and “Problem of the Day”. Binders need to be organized accordingly.

Participation------10%

As for participation, students need to be on time for class with all necessary materials. This includes homework, binders, loose-leaf paper or notebook, math book, pencil, and red pen. Students will also be graded on participating and answering questions during the class period.

Extra Credit - Problem of the Day:

At the beginning of each class, students will have a “Problem of the Day” to complete. Students will be expected to complete these problems on one sheet of paper for the entire week. After every couple of weeks, I will collect this work. For each problem that is completed correctly, has appropriate work, and is labeled accurately will receive two extra credit percentage points. Students will have the chance to earn up to ten percent in extra credit each week. These points will go towards their daily homework assignments. This is an easy opportunity to earn extra points and is expected to be completed each day.

Cheating Policy:

In the event that a student is caught copying answers from or giving answers to another student the consequences will be as follows:

If the copying occurs on a homework assignment or an in class assignment, the students will be required to redo the assignment and will be given 50% of their score.

If the copying occurs during a test, the students will be given a “0” on the test. A “CH” next to the score in Harmony indicates cheating occurred.

Absences:

If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to make-up missed work. Students have the same amount of days that they were absent to make-up missed work. If there is a previously announced test/quiz the day a student returns, he/she will be expected to take it when returning to school. Harmony can be checked for any missing work/assignments.

I will be available for help daily after school from 2:45 – 3:15. I will also usually be available by 7:15 each morning.

Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns. I look forward to a fun and productive school year!

Please go over this syllabus with your parents/guardians, as well as the parent letter, which has more information about our math class. After it is signed, keep it in the front of your binder as a reminder.
