NOTES:
1 Students planning to transfer to a senior college/university should consult the catalog from that college before choosing the fine arts, as individual colleges may list specific courses they allow students to take to satisfy this requirement at their college/university.
2 Orientation credit (1-3 hrs) transferred to Hinds from another college will satisfy our orientation requirement.
3 Electives may be chosen from any of the academic courses. Technical courses may be used as electives if approved by the academic dean. Some technical courses do not transfer to Universities. Developmental courses cannot be used as electives to meet graduation requirements. For a list of developmental courses, see the Catalog.
Developmental Courses
A college advisor will use the student’s ACT scores, placement tests, or transfer credits to determine if developmental courses are required to prepare for success in traditional college courses. Developmental instruction is given in the areas of English, Math, Reading, and Life Learning Skills.
Students must enroll each semester in all required developmental courses. Students should use the Developmental Course Plan of Study below when planning their schedules. Courses must be satisfactorily completed with a grade of “C” or better in order to move to the next level.
Developmental courses cannot be used as electives to meet graduation requirements. Developmental courses start with “0.” For example, ENG 0113 is developmental but ENG 1113 counts for graduation and is college transferable.
Developmental Course Plan of Study - Your advisor will circle the classes where you will begin your developmental courses. Each semester you can check the classes off as you complete them and move on to the next class.
