This lesson will focus on the water cycle and the parts of the water cycle

Class Format:This lesson will be blended with in class face to face lecture and technology game (Kahoot) to reinforce the key learning outcomes

Florida Common Core Standards: SC.6.E.7.2 Investigate and apply how the cycling of water between the atmosphere and hydrosphere has an effect on weather patterns and climate.

Prior Knowledge:
Students should be able to distinguish the different types of precipitation. Recognize that the ocean plays an important role in the water cycle, and that all waterways are connected to the ocean.Outcomes/Objectives:
1. Students will have an understanding of the water cycle
2. Students will be able to recognize the steps of the water cycle and the flow
Technologies and Other Materials /Resources:
· Power Point slide show of notes
· Projector to display Power Point notes
· Smart phone/tablet/ computer to be used to play Kahoot
· Worksheet/diagram of water cycle
· Laptop
Activities/Tasks (Lesson Procedure):
Enter the lesson procedures using numbered bullets. The procedures should clearly describe the sequence of learning activities and should identify where and how all materials, technology tools and student-created technology products, and reproducible materials/handouts are utilized in the lesson. Lesson Procedure:·
o Teacher script: We are going to be working on The Water Cycle today. Everyone please make sure you have your paper, pencil, and highlight out and ready to work. Once you have all your items please take a moment to brain dump on the top of your paper. (Brain Dump: write down as much as you know about the topic: words/phases)- 3 minutes
o Teacher: place powerpoint on the start slide.
o Teacher script: Class lets take a few minutes to hear what some of you had brained dump. (take 3 minutes to go around the room and allow a few students to share- this gets others brains thinging)
o Teacher: Start the powerpoint and review the vocabulary words. Each vocab word has a speaker next to it when you click it it will read the definition outloud. Pause in between each word and give students a few minutes to write down their information. 30 min
o Teacher: Go over the steps of the water cycle, providing examples of each vocab word and asking questions to make sure students understand. 15min

o Outcome: Basic understanding of the water cycle Relevance: This lesson carries into the weather cycle
· Motivating Introduction
o Did you ever wonder why it rains, snows, or hails? Where does the rain come from?
Closure and Review: The water cycle is the start of the weather unit that we are moving into next. This is where kahoot will come into play to review the vocab words. Relevance/Rationale:
The water cycle is visited many times in the science curriculum while in school. It is important to understand the water cycle as it leads into weather and more in depth science topics as students enter each new grade.
Assessment Criteria for Success:
Content knowledge, student knowledge, and appropriate resources aligned to instructional outcomes.
· Students will be quizzed using kahoot
· Kahoot is a quiz on vocabulary for this section, if a student can successfully take the kahoot quiz they should have a clear understanding of the lesson?
· Students have a understanding of the water cycle process
Explorations and Extensions:
1. EXPLORATION: Early finishes may use the internet in class to look at videos, diagrams and other examples of the water cycle
2. EXTENSIONS: The water cycle leads into weather. When starting weather the water cycle will be revisited and students will hear the same vocab words againModifications/Accommodations and Access for All:
The lesson will be delivered fully in class, students with disabilities will be able to participate like other students from their desk area. If a student has a learning disability they can be paired up with another student to help with kahoot. More time at the end of class can be used to help make sure all students have a clear understanding of the subjectMeaningful technology Integration Explanation:
This lesson on the water cycle plays an important role in science education, as it is the base for future lessons that will come. Students will see the water cycle again and again as they explore their science education journey. The technology used in this lesson will help enhance a students learning buy putting what they are reading into visuals that allow them to follow allowing. The power point slide show will give teachers a chance to slow down or speed up the lesson as needed by the students, it also encourages participation from the students as they are engaged to see what happens next. Kahoot (www.kahoot.com) is also being used to enhance this lesson on the water cycle. Kahoot is an online interactive review game that allows teachers to create or use pre existing questions to quiz their students knowledge on a given subject; the water cycle. For this lesson students will team up with their peers 2-3 per team and work together on answering questions based on what they have learned. Kahoot is a fun and educational way of reviewing key points, possible test questions and key terms to see where the class stands with their knowledge.
