Procedures for Anatomy & Physiology

ATTENDANCE: Consistent, punctual attendance is very important to develop a full understanding of the Big Ideas of Anatomy/Physiology. The attendance policy is outlined in the student handbook. Poor attendance and/or coming late to class may negatively impact on both your learning and grade.

IF YOU ARE ABSENT:

  1. Check the absent folder for material passed out while you were absent.
  1. Get the notes from a reliable classmate.
  2. Make an appointment to see your teacher.

MAKE-UP LAB WORK: Laboratory experiments must be made up within one week of the experiment. A weekly calendar with open lab times is located in the front of the room. Students must sign up for appointments on the open lab calendar to ensure teacher availability. Flowsheets will not be graded until the lab is made up. Students who do not make up labs are still required to obtain data, but no grade will be given for the lab flowsheet or data.

RESUBMITTING GRADED WORK: Students who receive a score below proficient (2 or 1) on Checks for Understanding and graded work are expected to redo and resubmit the work until it is proficient. Students who receive a score below proficient (2 or 1) on summative assessments may retake the assessment at teacher discretion. Follow the procedures below:

TO REDO AND RESUBMIT GRADED WORK:

  1. Use a different color ink than the original work and teacher marks (green is preferred). Make a key at the top of the original (i.e. “Corrections in Green”)
  2. Put the correct answer next to the original answer. DO NOT erase or cross out the original. When there is no space, corrections may be made on a separate piece of paper attached to the back of the original work. All corrections must be clearly and completely labeled to earn credit.
  3. Provide a thorough explanation of: a) why you missed the original problem. Also provide b) evidence of understanding: why your new answer is correct. Cite the text whenever possible and show all work. Correct answers without explanations will not earn credit.

MATERIALS:

Please bring these items with you each and every day!

  • A three-ring notebook. This notebook should have at least two-inch rings and 4 dividers.
  • Loose-leaf notebook paper (NO spiral paper!), Graph paper (Pales blue lines, ¼ inch grid)
  • Writing utensils (pen-blue or black, and #2 pencil)
  • Items that may be useful: calculator, colored pencils...

SAFETY: Biology students are required to observe proper safety while in the laboratory. A list of safety rules will be provided by the teacher. Students violating safety rules may be dismissed from class and not permitted to make up any work missed as a result.

NEA’s:The following list includes items for which No Excuses are Allowed. Work submitted with one or more NEAs will not be accepted.

  • First and last name, date and period in upper right hand corner of all papers
  • Complete assignment title in upper left hand corner of all papers
  • All calculations show work, answers circled or boxed, appropriate units included
  • No rat chew (spiral notebook remains)
  • All data interpretation and answers completed individually, even when data is collected as a team.
