Fig.1 Phylogenetic tree for the lycopene cyclase from distinct organisms, including cyanobacteria, bacteria, algae, fungi, and higher plants. The phylogenetic tree was constructed by NJ (Neighbor-joining) method, using the program MEGA 4.0 (http://www.megasoftware.net/) (Tamura et al. 2007) and ML (Maximum-likelihood) method, using the program PHYML (http://atgc.lirmm.fr/phyml/) (Guindon and Gascuel 2003), with bootstrap support values were derived from 1000 randomized, replicate datasets. The arrow indicates an ancient gene duplication event creating LCYB (red rectangle) and LCYE (green rectangle). Note that the overall phylogeny of lycopene cyclase follows the currently accepted system of classification of alga (Brinkman and Philippe 2007)
