GRANT MAKING PRINCIPLES, PRIORITIES AND GUIDELINES
- The Foundation's primary objective is to help meet the needs of economically and sociallydisadvantaged youth (prenatal through teens) and families, striving to address the causes of those needs wherever possible, and thereby prevent problems before they begin.
- In making grant decisions, the Foundation seeks to support initiatives that foster significant lasting value beyond the funding period.
- Organizations seeking support should attempt to build on the strengths of low-income or disenfranchised youth, families, neighborhoods and local communities, helping to nurture sustainable skills, leaders, programs, and facilities. In their efforts, organizations should involve these populations in identifying and solving their own problems, such as by enhanced participation of parents, legal guardians, and mentors.
- The Foundation recognizes that differences in age, sex, race, ethnicity, disabilities, etc., can divide individuals from one another. The Foundation will support efforts that build understanding and promote cooperation among different groups.
- In carrying out its activities, the Foundation seeks to promote communication and functional collaboration, where appropriate, both within the broader nonprofit community, and across government, independent, and private sectors.
- Organizations seeking support should reflect a diversity of races, cultures, ethnicity and genders in their staff, board and advisory boards; or have realistic plans to strive toward diversity. The Jaguars Foundation recognizes small agencies may not be able to fully meet all of these criteria.
- The Foundation will consider requests for general operating support (and, in rare cases, capital campaigns) only if tied to an articulated long-term strategic plan (e.g., 35 year plan), which should be submitted with the proposal.
- The Foundation may put resources into projects of its own creation. In addition, the Foundation may issue Requests For Proposals (RFPs).
SELECTION CRITERIA
Applications will be evaluated on the basis of:
- The program's fit with the Foundation's Grantmaking Principles, Priorities and Guidelines;
- How the program targets economically, and socially at riskyouth;
- How the program will be implemented and evaluated, including the procedures agency staff will utilize to track and measure process and outcome goals objectively;
- How the program promotes sustained outcomes for youth beyond the grant period, and how these will be measured and evaluated;
- How the program furthers the agency's capacity to assist youth and families beyond the project period; and
- What the agency will learn through this grant, and how what is learned will improve services.
LIMITATIONS
- In general, Jaguars Foundation does not provide grants to the following entities:
-Organizations outside of Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties;
-Fundraising and sponsorship events (e.g., galas, banquets, golf tournaments, etc.);
-Schools;
-Individuals;
-Religious organizations for religious purposes;
-Single disease organizations.
- Organizations that have been denied funding by the Foundation must wait at least one year before being eligible to reapply for funding.
- Organizations that are currently being funded by the Foundation that want to apply for funding for a new/different program must wait to submit an application until the grant period for the currently funded program is ended.
- Organizations that are currently being funded, may apply for continuation of the program being funded (if applicable). In general, multi-year grant support for an organization is for a maximum of two/three consecutive years. We encourage organizations to leverage funding received from the Jaguars Foundation to obtain other funding in concurrent andfuture years. Consideration may be given by the Foundation for additional funding in subsequent years, i.e., in the form of challenge grants.
