Salary / $62,241 - $62,803 per annum

Physical Requirements / This position requires good physical health. The Hostel Manager will be required to walk, lift, carry, and work a flexible schedule, and must be able to move continuously during working hours.

Duties and Responsibilities
Guest Services / Ensure all guest reservations and bookings are up-to-date and accurate using AHL’s reservation management system (RMS);
Securing reservations to meet occupancy targets;
Welcome guests upon arrival,managing check-ins and check-outs; ensuring high quality customer service during their stay; Respond to, and support guests with timeliness, reliability and attention to detail;
Monitor the implementation and delivery of guest services;
Achieving high standards of cleanliness;
Ensurethat complaints are addressed in line with AHL’s complaints handling system;
Proactively reviewing and responding to customer feedback;
Respect individual guest needs, promoting and adhering to AHL’s customer service framework at all times;
Where appropriate, facilitate access to relevant services and resources which foster health, well-being and independent living opportunities to residents.
Hostel Operations / Provide line management, support and leadership to all hostel staff;
Oversee regular development, performance management and identify training needs for hostel staff;
Report to the Business Manager, providing routine and comprehensive overviews of hostel operations and key priorities;
Manage and coordinate hostel budget, expenditure records and financial responsibilities as directed;
Respect AHL’s commitment to safety of staff and guests by adhering to Work Health and Safety (WHS) practices at all times;
Perform additional duties as requested, to ensure efficient and effective boarding support at all times, egassist in planning work schedules to maximise effective schedules during peak periods and priority situations;
Continually seeking areas for improvement to the overall products and services offered within the hostel;
Ensuring the maintenance of the building remains to the best possible standard;
Perform the duties of the First Aid Officer, Harassment Contact Officer and Fire Warden as required. For a full list of duties, refer to Attachment A.
Community Engagement / Facilitate and support productive working relationships with local providers, suppliers and AHL staff to ensure continuity of hostel operations and AHL community;
Establishing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly support services needed by residents;
Resolve complex issues that arise to ensure a positive, culturally appropriate experience and quality stay for hostel guests.

Skills and Experience / To be successful in this role you must have experience working in a hotel, community services, client support, health care services, residential support or similar. You must be able to lead and oversee the delivery of guest services and demonstrate a detailed understanding of quality customer support.
You will demonstrate the desire to make a difference, advocate and adapt, to build a compassionate community for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You will have the ability to relate positively with local stakeholders, health professionals and patient care facilities.
You will be responsible for administrative duties including a reservation management system, budget expenditure, operational reports and staffing performance. You must be able to demonstrate accountability for decisions, with the ability to face complex tasks with sound knowledge and professional judgement. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and navigate desired outcomes. A hands-on and ‘lead by example” approach.
You will demonstrate innovative thinking, and the ability to participate in continuous improvement. You must also demonstrate a detailed understanding of Work Health and Safety (WHS) practices, and be committed to operational needs, performing additional duties as requested.
Certifications / Current CPR training and First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one;
Current Mental Health First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
Current Drivers Licence
Desirable / Certificate III in Community Services or equivalent;
Previous management experience in a residential environment.
Management Duties
Lead and oversee day-to-day operations of the hostel with a focus on quality guest services. Provide support to the hostel team to ensure efficient operations.
General Guest Support / Welcome guests upon arrival, ensuring high quality customer services during their stay;
Work closely with hostel staff to accommodate guests’ needs;
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure guest needs are attended to in an efficient and professional manner;
Provide accurate, up-to-date and practical information to guests.
General Housekeeping / Where required, assist with general cleaning duties, housekeeping, food preparation or kitchen-hand assistance;
Coordinate hostel rosters, staff shifts and leave arrangements to ensure optimal coverage at all times;
Work closely with the Business Manager to support recruitment needs and staffing related decisions;
Be responsible for administrative tasks including RMS, budgeting and hostel expenditure;
Ensure administrative tasks, stakeholder communications and written correspondence are completed efficiently and to a high standard;
Contribute to change and apply initiative to consistently improve the quality and efficiency of hostel operations;
Outline and monitor clear objectives for short-term tasks and coordinate longer-term strategic planning to ensure constant development in hostel facilities and business improvement for Multipurpose hostels;
Be thorough with handovers at the beginning and end of shifts, to maintain consistent and supportive customer service.

This includes the requirement for an employee to:

Appropriately use equipment or substances provided by AHL and report all asset and property maintenance related matters.

Develop rapport with local stakeholders to offer supportive social and cultural networks for students.
