IXInternational Competition of Young Musicians
VIVA LA MUSICA
The Society of Cultural Support of Daugavpilsand Stanislavs BroksDaugavpils Music Secondary school in collaboration with the Culture Capital Foundation of Latviaorganize the competitionfor young soloistsfrom music schools and music secondary schools – instrumentalists and vocalists. The competition is devoted to Latvia’s Centenary.
Goals and objectives of the competition
- to develop performing skills of young performers;
- to make new creative international contacts;
- to promote children’s interest in playing music;
- to support new talents;
- to popularize the creative works of Latvian composers;
- to widen pedagogical experience.
Time and place of the competition
The competition will be held 11-13 April, 2018, in Stanislavs BroksDaugavpils Music Secondary school (Kandavas iela 2A, Daugavpils, LV – 5401, Latvija; telephone number +371654 07900, , ).
Competition Requirements
Students from all educational programs may participate in four age groups, students from Vocal music program have an additional fifth group:
-A group – up to 10 years of age (the number of participants - up to 30 contestants);
-B group – 11- to 13-year-old students (the number of participants - up to 30 contestants);
-C group –14- to 16-year-old students (the number of participants - up to 30 contestants);
-D group – 17- to 20-year-old students (the number of participants - up to 30 contestants);
Students of academic singing may participate in E group – 21- to 24-year-old students (the number of participants - up to 20 contestants).
The date of determining student’s age is 11April, 2018.
The competition will have one round.
Program of Competition
Participants of all groups perform:
-one or more compositions of a Latvian composer;
-one or more compositions of free choice;
The program must be performed by heart.
Timing
Agroup – 4 - 7min.;
B group – 6 - 9 min.;
C group – 8 - 11 min;
D and E groups – 10 – 14 min.
Assessment
The competition will be assessed by an international jury. Performances will bemarked after a 25-point system. The members of the jury will not evaluate own students. The decision of the jury will be final and will not be reconsidered.
Awarding
The winners of the competition will get diplomas of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree and prizes. The following awards will be granted:
-GRAND PRIX
-the best performance of a Latvian composer’s composition;
-the best free choice performance.
The participants may also be awarded by other legal or physical persons or social organizations.
The procedure of the competition is open. Prizewinners will perform in the final concert without any payment. Managing committee has rights to broadcast the procedure of the competition on the radio, TV or make a video and audio record and distribute them for non-commercial purposes without any payment of author's emoluments.
The procedure of application
The participants should send the following documents:
-application form (see the appendix);
-short creative biography;
-photo (good quality of JPG format);
-a copy of note testifying the participation fee.
The application form should be sent to the email before9 March, 2018.Incompleteapplications maybepended. When registering on theday of the contest, contestantsare required to presentpersonal identification document.
The participation fee is 15 Euro. It must be transferred before 23March, 2018 to the following bank account:

The participation fee can also be paid on the day of arrival.
Travel and accommodation expenses are covered by participants.
