State Bar of Texas to honor Houston individuals, organizationat Annual Meeting
AUSTIN — Presentations of awards honoring exceptional service to the public and the legal profession will be a highlight of the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting, to be held June 18-19 at the Grand Hyatt and Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
The following Houston individuals and organization are among those being honored:
- Benny Agosto Jr., Presidents’ Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors and past presidents for outstanding contributions in the legal profession.
- Houston Lawyers Association, Award of Merit, presented by the State Bar of Texas Local Bar Services Committee. The association was founded in 1955 to address the needs of black lawyers and the legal needs of the black community. The organization promotes community service and access to justice by educating the public on voting rights, legal rights, and police interaction, and educating students by hosting law-related poster, essay, and oratory contests.
- Robert G. Devlin, Frank J. Scurlock Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters Committee. The award is named for the late Frank J. Scurlock and honors an attorney for outstanding pro bono work.
- Susan Barrington Sanchez, Pro Bono Coordinator Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters Committee. This award honors an individual for exceptional contributions to the delivery of and access to legal services for the poor.
- Judge Jennifer Walker Elrod, Chief Justice Jack Pope Professionalism Award, presented by the Texas Center for Legal Ethics
- Morgan L. Gaskin, Keith L. Krueger Leadership Award, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association
- Alex B. Roberts, President’s Award, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association
- Chris Bloom, President’s Award of Merit, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association
- Olivia Carbajal de Garcia, President’s Award of Merit, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association
- Madelyn Light, President’s Award of Merit, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association
- Nicole Soussan, President’s Award of Merit, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association
- Belashia Wallace, President’s Award of Merit, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association
- Mark Lanier, Ronald D. Secrest Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award, presented by the Texas Bar Foundation
- David J. Beck,Outstanding 50 Year Lawyer Award, presented by the Texas Bar Foundation
- U.S. District Judge David Hittner, Outstanding 50 Year Lawyer Award, presented by the Texas Bar Foundation
- Ricky Anderson, Outstanding Achievement Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas AfricanAmerican Lawyers Section
- Marcy Kurtz, Pro Bono Service Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Bankruptcy Law Section
- Carol E. Dinkins, Sarah T. Hughes Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Women and the Law Section
- Kathleen J. Wu, Louise B. Raggio Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Women and the Law Section
- Judy L. Ney, Barbara Culver Clack Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Women and the Law Section
- Chris M. Hymel, Inventor of the Year Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Intellectual Property Law Section
