A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE TO THE HEATHWOOD HALL EPISCOPAL SCHOOL “HIGHLANDERS” FOOTBALL TEAM ON ITS VICTORY IN THE 2004 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.
Whereas, the members of the Senate applaud the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School “Highlanders” Football Team on winning the state championship in an exciting victory over the Wilson Hall Football Team; and
Whereas, with an undefeated record of thirteen wins theHeathwood Hall “Highlanders”’ remarkable season propelled them to the State Championship game where they defeated Wilson Hall “Barrons” twentyone to fourteen to win their second State Championship in the past four seasons; and
Whereas, the “Highlanders” showed tremendous perseverance by bouncing back from a fourteen to zero deficit to halt the Barrons’ offense and score three touchdowns; and
Whereas, a football championship requires every member of the team and coaching staff to possess special leadership skills and athletic abilities; and
Whereas, using those talents, Head Coach John Daye; Assistant Coaches Rip Blackstone, Stacy Bell, Charles Douglas, Brendan Hoynes, Roshann Myers, and David Prezioso; Athletic Trainer JuLayne Shiflett; and the members of the team performed throughout their season with determination and precision to earn the title of the best football team in their division; and
Whereas, with the enthusiasm and hard work of every team member, the Heathwood Hall “Highlanders” earned the 2004 South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AAA Championship crown; and
Whereas, the members of this exceptional team are Brandon Gantt, James Rogers, Rhodes Amaker, Montgomery Morris, J.D. Whalen, Philip Linder, Thomas Kibler, Ryan Alpert, Hampton Graham, Parker Moore, Adam Walker, Darian Benton, Crawford Prezioso, Nathan Steele, Tyler Whalen, Scott Willis, Wills Bryan, Hank Scurry, Sadler Walker, Steven Johnson, Nick Montgomery, Chase Campolong, Gus Herlong, Wilson White, Allen Wilkerson, Lance Lipscomb, Chris Gaston, Darien Browne, Tim Beyerl, David Kirby, William Roth, Tobias Schuster, Andy Shields, Lindsay Crawford, and Stevens Walker; and
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize the physical and mental abilities of these young South Carolinians and encourage them to continue to use those skills in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School “Highlanders” football team on its victory in the 2004 South Carolina Independent Schools Association Class AAA State Championship Game.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Heathwood Hall “Highlanders” Football Team, Head Coach John Daye, and The Right Reverend Dorsey Henderson, Jr., Bishop, The Diocese of Upper South Carolina.
