TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS SPECIALIST

JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERALRESPONSIBILITY:

This individual will work collaboratively with the Coordinator of Technology, department supervisors, teachers and students to provide support in implementing and managing technology initiatives.

REPORTS TO:

Responsible to the Superintendent through the Coordinator of Technology

GENERALQUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold or be eligible for a WV Authorization for Technology Systems Specialist.
  • Minimum of an associate’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education required. Minimum of two (2) valid basic level Technology Certifications (A+ certification or above preferred, or equivalent job experience), or one (1) valid advanced level certification as approved by the West Virginia Department of Education (MSCA certification or above preferred, or equivalent job experience).
  • Must be able to perform physical labor that includes lifting and/or moving of boxes, equipment and furniture.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Additional Minimum Requirements: Applicants who have recent unsatisfactory evaluations will not be considered eligible for consideration; applicants who demonstrate unsatisfactory interview performance are not eligible for consideration; and, applicants who receive unfavorable reference recommendations will not be eligible for consideration.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use technology such as computers and multimedia equipment, and use repetitive motions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift and/or move at least 10 pounds of materials. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB).

HOURS OF WORK:

8 am – 4 pm; Monday through Friday (schedule may be flexible as deemed necessary by supervisor)

FUNCTIONS ANDDUTIES:

Serve, at the school level, as the contact and resource for all issues related to technology including, but not limited to:

  1. Provides technical expertise, guidance and informal training to teachers and students using hardware, software programs, and online resources.
  2. Provide guidance to teachers and students in dealing with computer and software issues such as minor troubleshooting, software updates etc.
  3. Effectively train adults in the use of technology based software, hardware and applications and review annually of WVDE and WVSDB policies related to technology in collaboration with the Coordinator of Technology.
  4. Communicate effectively with students, parents, educational personnel and others as needed.
  5. Manage and implement any required updates to the campus School Messenger notification system. Management of the system includes callouts for school delays and cancellations.
  6. Serve as the technology point of contact for statewide assessment programs.
  7. Plan, design, install, deploy, and maintain Local Area Networks (LANs) and/or Wide Area Networks (WANs) as required in each facility operated by WVSDB
  8. Install and provide technical support for stand-alone and network software applications
  9. Responsible for the documentation, inventory, installation, configuration, service maintenance, repairs, modifications, and upgrades on all local area networks (LANs), computers, workstations, peripherals, electronic whiteboards, data projectors, operating systems, software and other technology related components.
  10. Manage Windows server Active Directory environment as required.
  11. Monitor systems daily and perform back-ups and restorations as necessary to maintain a secure and current communication and data network throughout the campus in all facilities operated by WVSDB
  12. Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of technology-related security policies and procedures in collaboration with the Coordinator of Technology.
  13. Manage and maintain users’ permissions and security access levels.
  14. Manage and maintain anti-virus and risk-management applications.
  15. Maintain comprehensive, accurate, and current records, such as inventories, warranty information, installation dates, training dates, etc.
  16. Provide technical support and expertise to teachers, administrators, and service personnel upon request
  17. Serve as a member of the WVSDB Technology Committee and as a resource for school technology teams as needed.
  18. Be “on-call” for emergency intervention/action when necessary.
  19. Complete a minimum of 15 clock hours of appropriate job-related in-service credit approved/offered by the West Virginia Department of Education annually to renew certifications and authorizations issued by the West Virginia Department of Education and a minimum of three (3) additional hours of WVSDB-approved professional development for a minimum total of 18 hours annually.

  21. Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SALARY:

Dependent on salary classification, certification and years of experience. Eleven months' (240 days) employment.
