JOB TITLE: Database and Insight Analyst
REPORTS TO: Database Services Manager
PROFESSIONAL SUPERVISION: Head of Data and Operations
RESPONSIBLE FOR: n/a
LIAISES WITH: All teams and volunteers as required plus external suppliers when required.
PAY BAND: 5
BASE: Maggie’s Glasgow Office.
Some UK travel will be required.
2. JOB SUMMARY
As a key role in the organisation, the post holder will be delivering business critical tasks for business as usual operations such as loading and extracting data, creating and providing key insight to staff at all levels.
Duties will include being responsible for successfully delivering work requests received from across the organisation in order to assist and support the effective use of Maggie’s donor and programme databases to maximise fundraising income, cost effectiveness and donor experience.
To deliver data insight including data requests, reports, statistical analysis as part of this role and coverage for the other analyst roles in the team when required.
The post holder will establish strong collaborative working relationships both internally and externally. Internally the post holder will be working with colleagues at all levels.
It is important that the post holder help us develop our internal SQL and ThankQ development knowledge – this is clearly stated as desirable and therefore a willingness to clean and develop these skills is important.
3. ORGANISATIONAL POSITION
The role will be reporting to the Database Services Manager within the Data and Operations team as part of the Operations department.
4. KEY RESULT AREAS
KRA 1. Primary job requirements:
1. Delivering work requests received from across the organisation in order to assist and support the effective use of Maggie’s donor database, programme database and other data storage areas and systems.
2. Prepare exports, import and database queries and set up routines for other processes such as mass imports, exports and updates on the database to allow users to undertake their responsibilities.
3. To assist in the daily running of a help desk function for all database users, dealing with queries directly and/or escalating issues to the Database Services Manager, Head of Data and Operations or the IT Department when appropriate.
4. Ensure that Service Level Agreements are met and adhered to with internal clients.
5. To champion the effective use of the databases and other systems and data accuracy with staff and volunteers in order to ensure data is of a good and clean standard.
6. To attend internal and external meetings as agreed with the Database Services Manager or Head of Data and Operations.
7. To deliver data insight including data requests, reports, statistical analysis as part of work requests using the inbuilt system tools or data warehouse.
8. To work with the Process and Insight analyst to develop, update and publish user processes, guides and procedures. Also, document in full this roles process documentation to a high level so that other analysts can cover processes when required.
9. Perform other duties commensurate with skills and abilities, as requested by the Head of Data and Operations.
KRA 2. Finance, Policy and Programme Development:

1. To contribute to research and development on a project basis, as agreed with the Database Services Manager or Head of Data and Operations.

1. Responsibility to ensure that all administrative tasks required within the role are completed in accordance with Maggie’s policies and procedures.

1. The post holder will be expected to perform to best standards in fundraising practice and in accordance with Maggie’s own fundraising and programme policies and procedures.

Person specification: Database and Insight Analyst
Essential / Desirable / Proven byTraining and qualifications / GCSE/A Levels or equivalent. / Educated to degree level.
SQL Server Qualification/certification. / CV and references.
Experience / Experience in IT support provision, including requirement specification gathering and first/second line support.
Experience of database administration in a multi-user environment. / Experience of application development within the voluntary sector and working with end users.
Experience of writing mutli-table queries and performing large data updates. / CV, interview and references.
Knowledge and Skills / Basic knowledge of SQL.
Data validation and manipulation techniques using SQL and/or visual basic (including Excel macros, linked work books and pivot tables) & MS Access.
Excellent planning, administrative and organisational skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent numerical skills and the ability to manipulate raw data.
Flexible and responsive with strong problem solving skills.
Proficient with full Microsoft Office Suite. / Advanced knowledge of SQL including building of scripts and SSIS packages.
