Application Guidelines

The mission of the United Way of South Central Idaho is to improve the lives by uniting people and resources for stronger communities.

The United Way of South Central Idaho (UWSCID) is pleased to announce our 2017 Community Impact Grant Cycle. Our goal is to align funding, volunteers, partner agencies, government and grants with programs that work. Our donors expect their dollars to measurably improve the quality of people’s lives and build a stronger community. United Way is aligning its resources to goals targeted at positively changing community conditions.

United Way is recognized as a community leader that:

  • Identifies and builds on community strengths and assets
  • Helps individuals and groups with specific community interests find ways to contribute their time and talents
  • Supports programs and agencies that provide direct services to help individuals and families
  • Advocates for public policy that improves community conditions

We are encouraging local organizations to work collaboratively towards addressing root causes, and finding solutions to those community needs. Together we want to Change the Odds for children and families in our community so they may have an opportunity for a better life.

  • We have identified three key focus areas in our community. Education, Financial Independence, and Health. For programs to be considered for funding, they must align with at least ONE of United Way's areas of emphasis of: Education, Financial Independence or Health.
  • Grant applicant agencies must submit 501-C-3 documentation, most recent Federal Tax return (990) and most recent audit OR financial review.
  • Funded Agencies must be in compliance with the USA Patriot Act and other counterterrorism laws (Antiterrorism compliance)
  • Funded Agencies should identify themselves as a United Way partner through use of the United Way of South Central Idaho logo on their promotional materials where and whenever possible.
  • A Letter of Intent (LOI) will be due by December 1, 2016. The LOI’s will be reviewed and programs that meet the funding criteria will be asked to submit a Request for Proposal (RFP).
  • The online Request for Proposal must then be completed and submitted by 5 PM December 31, 2016. Applications will be reviewed in January by a non-partisan committee, and the qualified agency programs will be notified by letter the beginning of February.
  • Funded Agency programs will be invited to attend United Way's Annual Banquet in Marchwhere they will receive the first half of their awarded grant funding. Agencies agree to allow United Way to use pictures, logos and other information in press releases regarding the grant recipients, and are to give United Way credit in all promotional materials, activities and programs supported by United Way funds.
  • Funded Agencies are required to submit two reports: 1)midyear reportthat will be due by 5 PM July31, 2017.2) A final year report that will be due by 5 PM Friday, January 31, 2018. All reports must be submitted on time to be considered eligible to receive the 2nd half of their grant as well as funding in the next grant cycle.
  • Senior Center Meals on Wheels programs are required to complete the Senior Center Application under the Impact Grants tab. Please complete fully and upload the Senior Center budget summary form.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNDRAISING POLICY

United Way’s principal method of fundraising is on-the-job solicitation of employees, solicitation of business donations, and solicitation of professionals and self-employed individuals. Understanding the need for Partner Agencies to supplement United Way support with other sources of operating income, while at the same time working in partnership with United Way to maximize the success of the annual campaign, the following Supplemental Fundraising Policy statement has been established:

  1. Funded agencies should not replicate United Way's method of Workplace Giving campaigns to raise charitable dollars during their annual campaign period from September 1 to December 15.
  2. Failure to comply with the Supplemental Fundraising Policymay be considered as grounds for termination of funding to the agency.

ANTI TERRORISM COMPLIANCE

In compliance with the USA PATRIOT Act and other counter-terrorism laws, it is required that each agency certify the following: that all United Way funds and donations will be used in compliance with all applicable anti-terrorist financing and asset control laws, statutes and executive orders.
