T
Universal Infant Free School Meal offer
From September 2014 all pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in state-funded schools in England will be eligible for free school meals (FSMs). In Key Stage 2 (Year 3 to 6) the cost of a school meal is currently £2.00. Taking up your entitlement to this Universal Free School Meal offer, clearly gives families a substantial saving.
As a health promoting school we strongly encourage parents to take up this offer of a free hot meal for their child. However, children who do not have a hot school dinner can bring a healthy packed lunch. No sweets or fizzy drinks please.
Pupil Premium
The pupil premium is additional funding given to publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. As a school we encourage you to claim your entitlement to the pupil premium where you meet any of the criteria. No child will be discriminated against because they receive this extra funding and it will be of enormous benefit to your child.
Shropshire Council awards this pupil premiumto families who receive the qualifying incomes as outlined below, and whose children attend a Shropshire Council school:
- Income support (IS)
- Income-based jobseekers allowance (IBJSA)
- Income-related employment and support allowance (ESA(IR)
- Child tax credit provided you are not receiving work tax credit and you do not have an annual income that exceeds £16,190 (as assessed by H.M Revenue and Customs).
- Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guarantee element of state pension credit
If you have recently become unemployed or have reduced your working hours, and have been granted the four week working tax credits run on, then you may be entitled to free school meals. Please call in to the school office for a form, contact the Customer Service Team on 0345 678 9000 or click on the link below to take you to the Shropshire Council website
Confusingly, this pupil premium funding is referred to as Free School Meals (in spite of the fact that all children in KS1 are entitled to a Free School Meal). In the 2014 to 2015 financial year, schools will receive the following funding for each child registered as eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any point in the last 6 years - £1,300 for primary-aged pupils. Ways in which we use this money:
- TA interventions
- Intervention programmes
- Residential trips
- Clubs
We strongly urge you to apply if you think you qualify for this pupil premium. If you are unsure, please enquire at the school office.
