WORK YEAR:When students are in session
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree in Educational Administration or related field from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Michigan Teaching Certificate (valid or expired) and at least 10 years successful teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with all levels of management, staff, students, parents and community.
- Demonstrated ability to administer student discipline consistently and fairly.
- Meet any State of Michigan requirements for dean of students.
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Assist to maintain discipline throughout the student body, establish and maintain a safe, orderly environment within the building and on the campus.
- Promote communication and mutual understanding between staff and parents.
- Promote a school environment which is conducive to learning.
- Conduct safety inspections and safety drill practice.
- Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and follows up enforcement of attendance policy.
- Carry out Board policies and administrative procedures.
- Be responsible for such other duties as are assigned by the Superintendent or Principal.

Job Description

Objective:Student Management
Student management should include teacher, noninstructional staff and parental contact as necessary.
Basic Roles:
Student Management
- Visible to parents and students upon arrival in the morning
- Attempt to resolve day-to-day student disciplinary issues as the middle step between the teacher and the principal (authority to suspend per Board of Education policy)
- Monitor student attendance and follow-up on truancy or extended absences with parents, MOISD attendance officer and court
- Address student issues
- Supervise hallway and playground monitoring
- Supervise lunch
School Activities
- assist principal with coverage of after school activities (as requested)
Transportation
- Collaborate with transportation supervisor on school bus problems as the middle step between the transportation department and the principal
- Supervise school bus unloading and parent drop-offs
Academics
- Assist principal to improve student academic performance (excluding teacher assessment)
District-wide Responsibilities
- As assigned by the superintendent
Staff Contact
Principal - collaborate on academics, student management, after school activities
Faculty - collaborate on academics and student management
Office staff - address student attendance
Tutors - supervise and address academics for at-risk students
Transportation Supervisor - collaborate on school bus issues
