How to convert a VoCATS Itembank to Exam View
10. Open the pdf file and chose select all text.
11. In the Accounting I folder example we find the pdf files, these include all questions by Course Objective, click and open the file
12. After opening the pdf file, chose Edit Select all., edit copy
13. Open a new Word Document and paste. I have included a sample blank conversion file you may download. It should contain all of my macros.
14. I need to add a title and the multiple choice (which tells examview the questions are going to be in multiple choice format.
15. I deleted the directions part above the question 1, Now I and going to record a Word Macro (a macro is a recording of keystroke that will all play back at the touch of a key)
16. Very Important is the placement of my cursor, because the macro is going to run based on my cursor position. You have to have the cursor in the same place each time as the macro will run from the cursor position. (if you use my template the macro maybe already there)
My macro F3= delete a space
F4 = from bottom go up four spaces and add a,b,c,d and answer
F5= from A add a,b,c,d and answer
F8= from question 1. After copying all the answers to the top of the page the macro will search for the first answer and replace it with the correct answer and object, single digit.
F9= same as f8 adds answers but with double digits.
F10= same as f8 but triple digits.
My macro is going to delete the space in the line and then go to the next line.
3. I open the macro recorder in Word.
17. I assign the macro a keyboard key, you could use any key, but I am going to use F3
18. I chose F3 assigned it and chose it again. Then I close the window. (if you use my template the macro maybe already there)
19. I press back space and this deletes the space in my line, hit space to correct the formatting, and then press the “Home” to put my cursor at the beginning of the line.
If I use Home to move my cursor it will go to the beginning of the line regardless of the number on characters in the line. Then I press arrow key down and move the cursor down a line.
Last I am going to click on the small blue square to stop recording.
20. Here I have cleaned up all the blank spaces put everything on one line. Notice all the ABCD are cleaned also, only one line and the next question is going to start right below it.. I am going to record my “F5” macro.
Starting at the Beginning of the CAP A I type
a. (little a period and three spaces, delete A, Home Key, cursor down
Now I am at the Beginning of CAP B I type
b. (little b period and three spaces, delete B, Home Key, cursor down
Now I am at the Beginning of CAP C I type
c. (little c period and three spaces, delete C, Home Key, cursor down
Now I am at the Beginning of CAP B I type
d. (little d period and three spaces, delete D, Home Key, cursor down
Press End key and place a period at the end of 2.
Then Home key and create two new lines and type
ANS: c OBJ: 101
Then I go down about 7 lines (cursor key down 7 time and then cursor key up until you are at the beginning of second line under the Next number.
Click on the blue square to stop the recording.
21. I have clean up two by pressing F3 as I need, now I am ready to press F5.
22. See how nice it works.
23. Now I turn my insert key on and write a macro F12 to search for “ANS: c”
Quit the search and place the cursor at the beginning of c.
I type the correct answer b and it replaces the c then press F12 and Word jumps down to the next question ready for an answer.
24. To replace the objectives I just search and replace ,, search for OBJ: 101 replace with OBJ: 103, pressing the R R quickly updates your questions.
