The application process

Before applying to the Lewisham Internship Scheme, please make sure that you have read the information on the webpage and that you understand the eligibility criteria and the roles available. Due to the high number of applications we will only be able to consider applicants who meet the criteria.

The application deadline is 9am Tuesday 27th May 2014. To apply for an internship you must send an email with the application form, a cover letter (one for each position that you apply for) and your CV. You are allowed to apply for more than one position, and depending on demand for a particular role, we may ask you during the application process if you would like to be considered for one of the other positions.

After the applications have been processed, we will be holding informal interviews during the first two weeks of June. The internships will start from the 16th June 2014. The start dates will vary depending on the opportunity advertised. Please ensure that you are available for the period indicated for the internship/s you apply to.

CV

Please ensure that your CV includes the following information:

·  Education: Secondary school, sixth-form, college and university

·  Qualifications: GCSE (or Level 2 equivalent), A-level (or Level 3 equivalent), undergraduate degree (or Level 4 equivalent)

·  Experience: work (paid) or voluntary

Cover letter

Please ensure that your cover letter does not exceed one side of A4 and includes the following:

·  Why you are interested in an internship at the Council?

·  Why you are interested in the role that you have applied for?

·  Why you would be a good candidate for the role that you have applied for?

§  Think of the skills that you have learnt during your course and how they may relate to the role.

§  Include skills developed during voluntary and extra-curricular activities that are transferable to a work environment.
