Weather around the UK
Warning this task must be completed in UK daylight!
Your Task: To produce an electronic or paper version of a map showing the weather in six parts of the United Kingdom through the medium of Web cams.
You will need;
· A computer linked to the web;
· An electronic version or paper version of an outline map of the United Kingdom. Please see me or visit www.geoexplorer.co.uk and click on ‘outline maps’ in the left menu.
· Paper and scissors if necessary.
Preparing your work.
1. If necessary copy and paste an electronic version of a UK map outline into a word document. Alternatively you can print your images and cut and paste them onto this outline.
2. Go to the Website www.ukwebcameras.co.uk . Click on the map of the UK.
3. You now need to find five outside web cams showing the weather in five locations of the country. Choose one for Wales, Scotland, The South West of England, London, Midlands, and the North of England.
4. To find your web cams just click over the interactive map.
5. Once you have found your images, either print them out or copy and paste them into your word document. For each image draw a line to where your image is from in the UK. Under the image write the name of the area and a brief description of the weather. For example, is it sunny with a clear sky, is it overcast, is it raining, there is snow on the ground!
6. Finally give you piece the title ‘Weather around the UK’. Print your work out if you have completed it by computer. If you can print your version in colour this would make it more stunning!
7. Extension add some weather data to your captions www.bbc.co.uk/weather
See the example on the back of this page. If you want to use your own web cam site you can!
