Standards for Kid Power Volunteers
- You must memorize the game and be able to explain it clearly to parents and students. Practice at home with an adult.
- If an adult or a child asks about information to find anything in the library, always refer them to the Information Desk.
- Be enthusiastic about the game! Always congratulate a child when they win and send them to the Information Desk when they win a prize. Remember you represent the Library and we want children to be excited about being here.
- When you arrive to volunteer, check in at the Information Desk and get your “Kid Power” badge.
- At the end of your shift, be sure to record your hours on the KidPower Volunteering Logsheet at the Information Desk.
- Keep the Summer Reading Game table clear of books or extra papers.
- Please do not leave your work area (Kid Power Table). You may quickly leave to use the restroom or find a book on the shelves nearby. Do not go any further away from the table.
- You may bring a bottle of water in case you get thirsty.
- If a friend comes to visit, please explain to them that you are working and have them make plans to talk to you later.
- Please do not listen to iPod or MP3, or use your cell phone during your shift.
- Do not stamp for a child – they need to have that pleasure & fun.
- Please dress appropriately. Jeans and casual clothing are acceptable.
- If players lose a game board, they need to speak with a librarian.
- It is your responsibility (not your parent’s or friend’s) to notify the library if you cannot work your shift. The phone number is 510-795-2629, or you can email Elizabeth Gamell at . Two no-shows in a row will result in being removed from the Kid Power team.
