Course OverviewCabrilloCollege
Engineering Tech 24Gary P. Marcoccia

Suggested Prerequisite: One or more of the following: CABT 101, CABT 106, CS1, CS 1L

Purpose: I will providestudents with introductory-level training in the use of the Autocad Drawing Editor. Students will gain the ability to create beginning-level drawings using the principles of graphic communication typical to those found in industry.

Required Textbook: Beginning AutoCAD 2014 by Shrock – see internet bookseller sites. My faculty folder contains the first four chapters in pdf format so that you can complete your homework while you wait for your text to arrive.

Suggested Textbooks: Since the Exercise Workbook is soley a tutorial-type text, I suggest purchasing an AutoCAD reference-type text. In addition, an AutoCAD quick reference guide is also very handy for quickly locating command information.

Required Supplies: Removable storage media that can hold at least 5 mb

Attendance: I will take attendance at the end of class.

Lectures: Prior to class, you are expected to have completed the reference text reading that corresponds to the lecture topic. Furthermore, you must be prepared to participate in the lecture by asking/answering questions. Lectures will be approximately two hours in duration.

Lab: While attending lecture is important, nothing surpasses spending time using the AutoCAD system.

As per the Cabrillo schedule of classes, this course requires that you spend 2 hours 5 minutes/week working on AutoCad projects in a CabrilloCollege lab. Lab hours are considered class time and all students are expected to complete them in order to fulfill the requirements of this course. It is the students’ responsibility to record their lab hours on a log sheet. I will periodically review log sheets. Labs will be held in rooms 801, 810, 834 and 1400 at the announced times.

Assignments: Drawing assignments, meant to provide you with practice on the topics discussed, are due on the dates indicated by the instructor with a point reduction of 25% imposed on all late submittals. While your classmates may answer questions and provide you with guidance, you are expected to complete your own work. Unless prior arrangements have been made, no late drawings will be accepted.

Submitting Your Assignments: All AutoCAD homework files must be placed in the Gary Marcoccia folder/Etech-24/turnin. This folder can be accessed via the “start menu/all programs/faculty folders” or via the “faculty folders” shortcut on the desktop. All homework should also be saved on your own media, and may be deleted only after you have verified your assignment grade. Lastly, all drawings must be named using the 7 digits of your student ID number followed by a dash and the drawing name (no spaces). Ex/ 4201668-Ex3c. The drawing name will be provided in the text. Note: files submitted in windows folders and/or using improper naming formats will not be graded.

Evaluation: I will correctyour assignments as quickly as possible and post grades. Grading is based on the following:

90 – 100 pts. = A 50 pts. - drawing assignment (36 @ 1.39 points/dwg)

80 - 89 pts. = B 15 pts. - midterm project/exam

70 - 79 pts. = C 15 pts. - final project

55 - 69 pts. = D20 pts. - Participation in lab hours (log sheet)

0 - 54 pts. = F
