Welcome to the ReligiousSchool "Consecration"

Service and Celebration

Traditionally, a child's first lesson in Hebrew was celebrated by putting honey on his/her slate to emphasize the sweetness of learning. Out of this legacy has come the ceremony known as Consecration or "Kabbalat Torah" (Receiving Torah) which celebrates the beginning of formal Jewish education.

All children in Kindergarten through Third Grade who are beginning ReligiousSchool this yearwill be called to the Torah for a blessing from the Rabbi and will be presented with a memorable gift and a Certificate will be mailed at later date, in honor of this important step. Your child's participation in the service, and the presence of members of the family, including grandparents, will make this a memorable experience in his/her Jewish life and will affirm the importance of Jewish education.A celebratory Oneg will follow. (If your child has any allergies you think we should know about, please contact Nancy Abraham on 914-723-5224 Ext 160).
