Mini-Grant for Service-Learning Research & Publication
Request for Proposals
Due: Friday, May 17, 2002, 5 p.m.
Overview:
The Chancellor’s Office of Community Service Learning received funds from the Corporation for National Service to support service-learning infrastructure development at each of the CSU campuses. As a result of this funding, five new mini-grants of $1000 each will be awarded to CSUF faculty wishing to design research on the effects/impacts of service-learning on students, faculty, community, pedagogy, evaluation, etc. Successful applicants will receive $250 upon submission of research proposal, $250 upon submission of draft report including results and discussion, and $500 upon submission of said research paper to peer reviewed publication/conference presentation.
Expectations:
Grantee will be expected to:
q Attend a one-day training and orientation on service-learning research provided by the Faculty Development Center and the Office of Service-Learning.
q Design a research project in service-learning following IRB guidelines and procedures.
q Publish the research results in a referred journal.
Award Amount, Use and Grant Period:
Five grants of $1000 will be awarded. Grantees will receive $250 upon submission of research proposal, $250 upon submission of draft report including results and discussion, and $500 upon submission of said research paper to peer reviewed publication/conference presentation.
The grant period is from July 1, 2002 – June 30, 2003.
Grant Selection:
Proposals will be reviewed by members of the CSUF Service-Learning Steering Committee. Proposals will be scored accordingly:
· Quality – The proposed research project is scholarly, well designed and enhances the existing body of service-learning research.
· Viability – The proposed research project is viable for implementation in the given time period.
Award Notification:
Successful applicants will be notified by Friday, May 24, 2002.
