Silver Lining for Black Prince at International Wine Competition
Black Prince Winery was awarded 2 silver medals at the recent “Cellars of the World 2007” International Wine Competition for the Ottawa Wine and Food Show. These medals were won in both the Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc and Icewine categories, for the Black Prince 2006 Cabernet Franc and the Black Prince Vidal Icewine.
A panel of 28 wine judges chaired by Debbie Trenholm of The Savvy Grapes gathered at the Sheraton Ottawa Hotel on October 6th to assess 425 wines entered from around the world.
Competition for this show was fierce with wines from the most prestigious grape growing regions worldwide. Black Prince’s two medals represent the first international awards for a Prince Edward County winery.
“Black Prince is very proud to be recognized amongst such wine producing countries as South Africa and Chile, (gold and bronze respectively in the Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc category) in the medal standings. This is truly a coming of age of what this area can achieve and comes at such an amazing time, with Prince Edward County’s recent viticultural designation.” said Geoff Webb (general manager).
Black Prince Winery has had a stellar year winning national attention in June with a Double Gold medal for their Vidal N.V.
