Energy efficiency that is “Made in Italy”
Rittal is building four new production lines at its northern Italian factory in Valeggio sul Mincio to expand its international production capacity for energy-saving cooling units of the new "Blue e" generation. The investment is part of the enclosure and system provider's global growth strategy.
Herborn, 29 October 2012 – In future, up to 400 cooling units will be produced at Valeggio every day using the latest production and assembly processes. “With this investment, we are balancing out our international production in a more satisfactory way. We will thus be able to generate more internal competition and reduce potential default risks“, says Michael Weiher, Technical Director at Rittal.
The new energy-saving cooling units of the “Blue e” generation will now be made on the production lines. This range, being introduced worldwide, includes energyefficient enclosure cooling devices with cooling capacities ranging from 500 to 4000 Watts, and offering energy savings of up to 45% (and even 70% in ideal cases). The new “Blue e” units have already been successfully tested, for instance atthe press shop of Sindelfingen-based automobile manufacturer. Converting over 250 cooling units to the new energy-saving technology means that in future, it will be possible to reduceannual carbon dioxide output by 490 tonnes and cut operating costs by a six-figure sum.
The improved coefficient of performance (COP), for example, up to 42% higher in the case of 1,000 W units (an increase from 1.2 to 1.7) is the result of years of research and development work by Rittal. It stems from the improvedrefrigeration design of all device components, from the benefits of nano-coated cooling fins and from the use of energy-efficient fan motors that feature EC (electronic commutation) technology.
At the Valeggio sul Mincio plant, the investment means that the total number of employees will increase to around 200 and further recruitment is planned. The German Consul General, Jörg Bubendey, as well as Fausto Sachetto, Economic Development Officer for the Verona area acknowledged during a visit that Rittal had created more than 50 new jobs during the initial stages alone, and has done so at a difficult time for Italy.
The Valeggio plant was founded in 1985 by a manufacturer of air conditioning solutions and in 2000, the factory was integrated in Rittal's global production network. This well-established Italian facility has over 9,000 m² of production space, mainly producing recooling systems, heat exchangers and cooling units.
