SouthwestCommunity Center, one of Portland Parks & Recreation's largest & busiest facilities, is hiring for the SproutAcademy green preschool program!
We are recruiting for:
• Lead Instructor 4 year old classes Shift: M-F 12:30p--4:30p Hours per week: 20 + 3 planning (23)
• Lead Instructor 2 year old classes Shift: T/Th 8a--1p Hours per week: 10 + 2 planning (12)
• Preschool Aide 3's afternoon class Shift: MWF 12:30p--4p Hours per week: 10.5
The Sprout Academy is a certified Eco-Healthy, play-based preschool. Our teaching philosophy is that Children Learn through Play. Classes use recycled & found materials for arts & crafts, learn about our Earth's ecosystems, welcome special guests, cook with local foods, take nature hikes, garden in our community garden plot in Gabriel Park, and much, much more. Aside from education & experience, we are looking for staff that have a warm, cheery demeanor, positive attitude, someone who is flexible & can switch gears easily as needed. Must have excellent communication skills with parents & coworkers and employ an outstanding work ethic.
All positions are part-time (maximum of 1200 hours per calendar year). Hours per week will be set as noted above, with a few additional hours required as needed for meetings, trainings, possible subbing, etc. Additional hours may be available in Kid's Day Off camps, Winter Break, Spring Break & Summer Camps, & Childcare depending on your availability, interests, and skills.

JOB TITLE: Lead Preschool Instructor (Seasonal - Educational Preschool)
EDUCATION &/OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 250 hours of recent experience
HOURLY WAGE: $11.00 - $16.00
OVERVIEW:
Responsible for creating, planning & implementing lesson plans based on an early childhood curriculum for children under 6 years of age based on social interaction & recreation. Provide a healthy, safe & enriching environment for children to learn. Position is overseen by onsite full-time staff & works within the context of a community center setting.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
• Possess knowledge of current trends, techniques & principles for implementing early childhood curriculum & educational programs & activities.
• Ability to work a variety of hours, including days, evenings, weekends & holidays.
• Maintain First Aid & CPR certifications.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Must possess 250 hours of recent experience in the field of instruction.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
• Demonstrate knowledge of principles, practices & rules related to early childhood education.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups of people.
• Ability to work with children with special needs.
• Ability to lead a class & educate/motivate class members.

• Maintain a tidy, clean, organized kid-friendly shared classroom space.
