Position Description

Family Therapist and / or Workforce Development Trainer

Position Context

The Bouverie Centre have Family Therapists and / or Workforce Development Trainer positions currently available. Full time, 0.8 or 0.6 EFT will be considered. We are looking for highly experienced, innovative and motivated family therapists and trainers to join our Clinical and Community Services (Workforce Development) teams.

The time fraction and the range of work can be negotiated however some positions will require a greater component of Workforce Development Training and others will have a greater component of Clinical Family Therapy.

The position(s) is designed to promote wellbeing and effective treatment for families (adults and children) where family members have experienced mental illness and/or difficulties related to AOD misuse, including relational trauma.Direct clinical work with clients and the development and support of relevant skills and capacity within the mental health and allied health workforce are key parts of this position. The Bouverie Centre undertakes workforce development on a state-wide basis.

Duties at this level may include:

  • Provision ofadvanced specialist clinical services via a range of client families including cases of a complex nature (Family Therapy component)
  • Provision of advanced training, clinical supervision and consultation to other health and welfare agencies as required, including special projects
  • Provision of training as part of The Bouverie Centre’s Professional Development and Academic Programs
  • Supporting the implementation of family-based practices in alcohol and other drugs, mental health, Gambler’s Help and other publicly funded human services through the provision of training, supervision, coaching and organizational consultation
  • Designing, co-ordinatingand delivering workforce development and implementation projects conducted by The Bouverie Centre, as a member of the Community Services Program
  • Preparation ofproject proposals, evaluation reports and other documentation as required
  • Working collaboratively with other staff at Bouverie on special projects
  • Participationin staff meetings, recieve supervision of clinical work and ongoing professional development.
  • Contributingto agency-wide policy and planning as required
  • Other duties as directed by the Program Manager (Clinical) or the Director

Key Selection Criteria include:

  • Adegree preferably in psychology, social work, psychiatric nursing or other allied health discipline and membership of relevant professional associations (ie AASW, APS)
  • A Masters in Clinical Family Therapy or equivalent postgraduate training and experience in family therapy.(Required for Family Therapy role, desired but not essential for Workforce Development Trainer role)
  • Eligibility for Clinical Membership of the Victorian Association of Family Therapists
  • Commitment to the provision of high quality, responsive and ethical services to families
  • Sound knowledge and significant experience in the provision of clinical services in the specialist field of family therapy in child and adolescent or adult mental health services; and/or skills in working with trauma, abuse and child protection related issues from a systemic perspective; and/or dual diagnosis from a family sensitive perspective
  • Highly developed skills in family work with a sound knowledge of family-based approaches and their application in human services organizations, particularly alcohol and other drugs or the mental health fields
  • Significant experience in the human services field with particular reference to the alcohol and other drugs, mental health and the Gambler’s Help sectors
  • Experience in providing training, consultation, supervision and support to human service practitioners and their managers
  • A demonstrated ability to write reports and assist in the implementation of evaluations
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with a capacity to work independently and as part of a team as circumstances require
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly and collaboratively, both within a team context at The Bouverie Centre and externally with other agencies
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License and a willingness to travel and stay overnight in country Victoria and interstate
  • Experience in the provision of academic teaching or training in the specialist field of family therapy
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of secondary consultation services
