JOB DESCRIPTION: CARE WORKER

HOURS PER WEEKLY ROTA:33hours minimum + usually 2 sleep-in duties

DEPARTMENT:The Rookery

REPORTING TO:Manager/Deputy/SeniorCare

RESPONSIBILITIES AND PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

To maintain high standards of care in accordance with the policy and procedures of the home.

As key worker, to be responsible for implementing care plans and contribute to further development of life skills for designated clients.

To keep appropriate written records/reports regarding clients’ care programmes and other associated records.

To aid clients in daily living skills; including personal care, social skills and development. This may involve assisting clients in areas of personal care such as dressing, personal hygiene, toileting, eating and development of mobility and life experiences.

Report any changes in clients’ health or signs of injury to senior staff members.

Assist in basic induction of new staff members.

Supervision and stimulation of residents in a manner which will ensure clients are given real choices, and enable clients to be treated with and retain dignity. Ensure clients’ needs and wishes are ascertained, respected and met whenever possible.

Domestic tasks where necessary, including catering, attending to clients laundry, general upkeep of the homes high standards of cleanliness. Observing health and safety policy and procedures set down by the home.

In the case of staff shortages and emergencies be prepared to give cover, and take on responsibilities not laid down in your job description.

Keep records of any telephone or other messages received, in order that they can be conveyed accurately to relevant staff, always maintaining confidentiality of information.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To work as part of a team to provide practical personal care and support to clients, to help create a positive and supportive environment, and homely atmosphere.

To be constantly alert to clients’ needs, caring and encouraging lifestyles which are as independent as possible.
