PTA Meeting Minutes for November 11, 2013
Call to order: Meeting was called to order by Vice President Anne F. at 7:01 PM
Review and approval of minutes: The Minutes were reviewed. Anne requested any changes or approval. Julie W. made a motion to approve the minutes and Julie M. seconded. Minutes will be filed as presented.
Treasurer’s report: Roxanne E. reported our ending balance on 11/11/13 was $10,244.17. We had deposits of $2,910.00 for our current spirit wear sale but we will be paying $2,600 out shortly. Our fall social brought in $310 before the expenses for the snacks.
Correspondence (Secretary’s report): No correspondence
Committee reports
Assemblies: Diane S., Chair: no report. Our next assembly isn’t until May
Box Top for Education: Pamela A., Chair. Anne presented the report: Pamela thanked everyone who sent box tops in to school. We will be receiving a check for $97.50 which was a 25% increase from last year.
Dance/Socials: Anne F. & Amy L, Co-Chair. Anne thanked the parents that assisted with the student council sponsored social in October. The PTA provided the refreshments so once we finalize profits, we will donate the proceeds to Student council like last year. February 7th is the next PTA sponsored social. There will be a planning meeting following the December 9th PTA meeting.
Eighth Grade Send Off: Cindy G., no report
Five Below Fundraiser: Our first event is scheduled for this coming weekend. The flyer is on-line and a flyer should also be coming home with the student this week.
Fundraiser: Cindy G., Chair. No report.
Hershey Park Volunteers: Deb R., Chair, will provide dates to the committee as they come available
Hospitality: Tammy Bien, Chair. No report
Thank you to Tammy and the hospitality parents who provided treats on October 31st .
Legislative/PAC: Susan J., Chairs, No report – next meeting November 21st and Gayle will be attending in Susan’s absence.
Membership: Julie W., Chair. We currently have 195 members. If you have not joined yet, please complete your form
Ram’s Make a Difference: Jamie Z. and Nancy W., Co-Chair. We had 65 Sixth grade students this past Friday. It was very successful. Our dates for next year are (8th grade 1/10; 7th grade 2/14; 6th grade 3/21). We are also collecting items to be donated to Caitlin Smiles. E-mail Jamie at if you would like to coordinate drop off. Program Liaison: Jamie Z., Chair. No report
Reflections: Julie M., Chair. The winners have been announced and have moved on to the regional level. The students who won are as follows:
Visual Arts: 1st Place-Madeline S.; 2nd Place-Sophia M.; 3rd Place-Benjamin S.; Photography: 1st Place-Zoe W.; 2nd Place-Troy S.; 3rd Place-Jennifer P.; Literature: 1st Place-Benjamin S.; 2nd Place-Benjamin S.; 3rd Place-Mary L. The judging will be in the next few weeks.
Scholarships: Jane B., Chair. No report
School Spirit Wear: Alicia B., Chair. The PTA will be partnering with the school store to provide additional spirit items.
Teacher/Staff Appreciation: Chrissie K. No report
Volunteer Committee: Diane S., Chair. Additional library volunteers are needed.
New Business:
Principal Report: Mr. Matzner reviewed the Teacher Wish List procedures from the 10/21/13 PTA meeting since he was not able to attend the meeting. Anne confirmed the procedures including submission of the form to the Treasurer. Mr. Matzner will be reviewing the procedures with the teachers and confirmed they are able to use the same form as last year. Requests will be following shortly. Items $25.00 and under will be requested to see if a parent would like to provide rather than use the PTA funds. The 7th grade teachers are looking to purchase sets of books. Roxanne requested that Mr. Matzner e-mail receipts to her attention so she can process the checks in a timely manner.
The Magazine survivor game will be held November 15th.
Algebra I keystone tests will be taken by just a handful of students this winter.
Anne reminded everyone of our next PTA meeting on December 9th and the Student Assistance sponsored social will be held December 13th. She reminded everyone of Mr. Hilbish’s note regarding purchasing your students yearbook.
