Advantage Navigator Cheat Sheet

*DISCLAIMER: This software is still in the testing stages for our district. Some schools might not yet have 100% accurate data, and a few schools will not have any data at all yet. Thank you for your patience while the kinks are being worked out.

  • To access the EMC, go to

  • For both User NameandPassword, enter: FCPS_Demo
  • It is case sensitive, so be sure to enter it exactly as above.
  • Upon logging in, you should see this page:

  • To access graphical data, click on the “Analyze” tab.
  • The “Analyze” page should look like this once it first loads:

  • Click on the arrow next to “FAYETTE COUNTY” to open up a drop down list of all the buildings available to look at energy usage information for.
  • Find the school you would like information about, then click the arrow next to it, followed by clicking the arrow next to “ELECTRIC.” When you have done that it should open up a couple meters that look like this:
  • To see the graphical information about energy usage you must click on the meter you want information about and drag that meter into the box labeled “Diagram” to the right of the list of schools.
  • The meter that has the symbol that looks like a lightning bolt represents energy usage, measured in Kilowatt-hours.
  • The meter that has the symbol that looks like an odometer represents power drawn, measured in Kilowatts.
  • We prefer to feature kilowatts (odometer) when working with students.
  • Dragging the meter over brings up a prompt to choose some options for your graph.

  • In this prompt you may change the color of your graph:

  • You may also change the resolution, or how many data points you want to see in a time period:

  • We recommend 15, 30, or 60 minutes. Every 1 minute can take a long time to load sometimes, depending on how long of a time period you want to look at.
  • You can also change the type of graph:
  • We recommend stepped area chart type but encourage your students to explore all chart types.
  • If you want to look at other options, like changing the range of dates you view data for, or the minimum and maximum values on the respective axes, then click on “More options.”
  • The default time period for any graph is the previous week. If you want to change that, after you click on “More options”, click on the box to uncheck “Relative Period” which will open up boxes to enter in the range of dates you are curious for data from.

When you have selected the options you would like, hit confirm. This will load your graph in the “Diagram” box.

  • This example shows the Power drawn (Kilowatts) for Harrison Elementary school during the week of 11/28/13 through 12/04/13 in a stepped area graph with a resolution of 15 minutes. You can easily see the three days in which school was in session and previous four days which consisted of Thanksgiving weekend.
  • If you want to edit any of the graph options you decided upon previously, you may click the button in the upper right corner of the “Diagram” box that looks similar to a pen writing on a surface:
  • There are many other ways to manipulate the graph once you open it. At the bottom of the page if you click on the tab that says “Click Here for Help Menu” it will go over many features of this software.

Coming Spring 2015

We encourage teachers and students to access, monitor and learn from this Advantage Navigator software as we move towards a GBM (Green Building Monitoring) platform that will feature this live energy consumption data in addition to customizable features to allow each school to customize your website to feature and promote your school’s unique sustainability accomplishments/initiatives.

Please let us know if you or your students would like additional training on the existing Advantage Navigator.
