The Nominating Committee of the Denver Chapter of the IIA is inviting volunteers to applyto serve on its Board of Governors for a 3-year term starting with the 2018-19 Chapter Year (which begins June 1st, 2018). Please see the attachment for the position description and application information. Applications will be vetted by the Nominating Committee, who will then propose candidates for a vote by the chapter’s members. Applications will be accepted until January8th.
IIA Denver Chapter Board of Governors
Overview: The mission of the Board of Governors (BoG) is to govern the chapter, ensure member needs are being met through a full range of quality services, effectively promote the practice of internal auditing, and ensure effective strategies are developed to address issues and opportunities the chapter encounters. The BoG oversees and develops Chapter initiatives, ensures compliance with the Chapter Bylaws and Policies, supports Chapter Officers and Volunteers in their efforts on the Chapter’s behalf, ensures adequate human and financial resources are available to support Chapter operations, oversees the Chapter’s Long Range Plan, and ensures Chapter Officers and Volunteers adequately fulfill their specific responsibilities. The BoG interacts frequently with the volunteers serving as chapter leaders and receives reports from its officers at each BoG meeting.
The at-large BoG member role requires an average time commitment of 5 to 10 hours per month, with more time required when needed to address specific issues or initiatives. BoG members are expected to attend all quarterly BoG meetings and as many Chapter events as possible (at least three). They are also expected to serve the Chapter as a Board Advocate for a Chapter Leader or participate on a BoG or Chapter committee (Bylaws, Nominating, Education, Membership, Academic Relations, among others) or serve in ways such as planning Chapter functions, providing facilities for Chapter functions, drawing sponsorships for Chapter functions, presenting at Chapter functions, serving as a trainer for the IIA, serving as a volunteer or presenter for RMAC, attending student outreach functions, serving as a guest lecturer on audit-related subjects, or writing columns or articles for Internal Auditor magazine.
Term: Per the bylaws, an at-large BoG member’s term is three years. The Chapter’s Nominating Committee determines the proposed slate of BoG members, which is then submitted to a vote by Chapter members at a Chapter meeting. Chapter guidelines for the B6G indicate an at-large BoG member may serve two consecutive terms, then must leave the BoG for at least two years before being considered for additional terms.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a Denver Chapter member and will have a CIA or other appropriate internal-audit related designation, strong leadership and vision setting skills, strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of Chapter functions and/or operations, prior experience as a volunteer for the Denver Chapter or another IIA Chapter, and a passion for the internal audit profession and the IIA.
