COURSE DESCRIPTION
HD 100 develops a better understanding of the learning process and essential academic success skills and abilities.

COURSE OUTCOMES
Upon completion of HD 100: First Year Experience, students will:

  • Know where and how to access support services available at BC
  • Understand college vocabulary and BC terminology
  • Identify characteristics of successful students and identify barriers to college success
  • Develop personal strategies for success
  • Understand the importance of diversity in the college environment
  • Know how to register, receive advising, access online advising resources, and plan for their education
  • Establish social connections with cohort and establish academic connections with BC faculty and staff

The Disability Resource Center serves students with a wide array of learning challenges and disabilities. ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION

  • Students are expected to attend all FYE class sessions and arrive on time. Failure to attend any of the components or sessions of FYE will result in a grade of NC on your transcript.
  • Student participation in class activities is what makes the class a fun and productive learning experience.
  • Students are responsible for contacting classmates to get notes and information that they miss.

GRADING

  • Your grade will be determined by your attendance and participation in all class sessions
  • Your course schedule will be reviewed with you by the instructor, and you will be asked to complete minimal assignments outside of class

CELL PHONES AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES

  • All electronic devices must be turned OFF and put away during class.
  • Earphones, iPods, etc. are other examples of electronic devices that are not permitted in class.

CLASSROOM ETIQUETTE

No guests. Students must be registered for this class in order to attend.

No wandering in and out of the classroom.

Students who sleep through class will be marked absent.

Cell phones, iPods, ear phones, and any other device that could be disruptive should be turned off and put away during class.

Be respectful of others. No talking while other people are speaking.

Come to class prepared and ready to participate.

Cheating, stealing and plagiarizing (using the ideas or words of another as one’s own without crediting the source) and inappropriate/disruptive classroom behavior are violations of the Student Code of Conduct at Bellevue College. The instructor can refer any violation of the Student Code of Conduct to the Dean of Student Success for possible disciplinary sanctions.
