COURSE OBJECTIVES

This course introduces students in the planning major, and the sustainable design minor, to methods and technique in plan production. Students are introduced to plan graphic methods including the application of Google SketchUp CAD design software and the Adobe CS3 suite of software (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). These skills are used in subsequent planning studio classes.

The objectives for this course are to:

1)Provide introductory skills to design software for urban planning applications

2) Acquire applied skills in growth management design using computer aided design techniques

3)Acquire skills in plan layout and presentation methods

4) Introduce students to design critique process

FORMAT: CLASS PROJECTS

The course combines demonstration of software application, online tutorials, and assignment of student graphic projects illustrating the application of the software. Students present designs in class critiques.
