Desktop Edi Tradanet Asynchronous/X28

Please note that if your software connection protocol is set for TCP/IP then you will be using a VPN connection and no changes will need to be made so the rest of the document can be ignored.

It’s recommended that clients using the X28/Async protocol try to change to a PPP connection where possible instead. X28 is an older protocol and more difficult to support due to the modem script complexities. In the future GXS will retire this service sooner than the PPP protocol. If you have any problems configuring this new protocol or can’t connect on it, please contact our Technical Support team on 08705 133 165, option 0, option 1.

To switch to the PPP protocol, please complete the following steps:

  • Go into either:
  • Start -> Settings -> Network Connections

Or:

  • Start -> Connect to -> Show all connections

  • Select New Connection wizard or Create a New Connection
  • Click Next and then select “connect to the network at my workplace”
  • Click Next and Select “dial-up connection”
  • Type a name for the new connection – e.g. GXS and click Next
  • Enter the new phone number – 0203 320 9703. If you need a 9 for an outside line, please insert this in front of the phone number. If you are connecting from Mainland Europe, change the number to: 0031207109313.Please prefix this by the necessary number to reach an outside line if needed
  • Click Next and choose the “all users” option and click Finish
  • The “Connect GXS” box will then appear so please click the properties button to see this screen:

  • Un-tick the “use dialling rules” box
  • Click on the Options tab and configure the following settings:

  • Click on the networking tab and configure the following settings ensuring you un-tick the “Client for Microsoft Networks” box:

  • Click OK to go back to the ‘Connect GXS’ box.
  • Enter your in the username field and ‘tradanet’ in the password field.
  • Tick the ‘save this user’ button and click Dial:

  • If the connection succeeds, double click on the icon in your system tray with 2 connected computers and disconnect it:
  • Open your Desktop Edi software
  • Go into Tools | Services
  • Highlight the network you connect with and click on the ‘Settings’ button
  • Take a screenshot of your existing setup and save it
  • Change the protocol to PPP
  • If you’re connecting from the UK enter the IP address 198.133.252.208 and port number 11551
  • If you’re connecting into the German Tradanet instance, enter the IP address 198.133.252.213 and port number 10240
  • Only enter the CHAP ID and passwords if the dialup networking connection did not let you save your user details. These will be:
  • CHAP ID:
  • CHAP Password:tradanet
  • Click OK to close out
  • Make a connection with Tools | Send and Receive on Network
  • Highlight your network name and click Connect

If you receive connection errors:

  • Go back into Tools | Services
  • Highlight the network you connect with and click on the ‘Settings’ button
  • Take a screenshot of your existing setup and save it
  • Change the protocol back to X28
  • Refer back to your screenshot of your original X28 setup and change your settings accordingly e.g:
  • The com port
  • Click on the modify button in the “Current Modem setup” section and click on the drop down and select the appropriate script prefixed with “ATG..”in the logon script and the “ATG Logoff hangs up modem” for the logoff script
  • Set your Network Routing info as per your original setup. The password will be tradanet
  • Change the phone numbers as below, keeping the prefixed 9 if you need it for an outside line
  • Put a tick in the monitor box at the bottom to capture the session:

If you are connecting from Mainland Europe, change the number to: 0031207109312 or 0031207109311 remembering to prefix them if you need a number to reach an outside line

  • Then click OK twice to close out
  • Then test the connection with Tools | Send and Receive on Network, tick your network and click Connect

If you have problems connecting on these new numbers, please change them back to the 0845 912 2401/ 2400numbers, or European equivalent, and call the Technical Support desk immediately on 08705 133 165 option 0, option 1.
