SIT Meeting Minutes

Welcome-Mr. Mendez welcomed SIT members for 2016-2017 academic year.

Mr. Mendez covered SIT Committee Rolls and Responsibilities. He also covered New Accountability Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR). He stated that visitors are coming to look at what SISD is doing with limited resources compare to other districts.

Trained Unlicensed Personal Medication Administration Checklist-Nurse Mejia stated that Mrs. Herrera would like the SIT Representatives to be the Response Team for our school. She reminded members that AED is located outside of her office. Nurse Mejia explained the Medical log. Teachers must document if they administer any medication to a student in case of an emergency or during a field trip. She covered EPI pen and inhaler procedures, her emphases was for teachers always double check for the correct medication for the right student. Nurse Mejia also reviewed School Medication Administration Guidelines and finally 5 “RIGHT” to be safe.

OLWEUS- Mrs. Frausto spoke to members about “HOT SPOTS” (playground area, basketball court and soccer field) have been covered and monitor during morning duty and lunch duty. The number of incidents has decrease in our school. She shared that the Voice box in available for students and it’s located at the library. Mrs. Frausto covered the procedures how to navigate in the OLWEUS website. Members had concerns about having trouble to log in. There was been issues with teachers been able to log in but not been able to view the videos due to internet been slow and computers as well. Also, the committee and Mrs. Frausto agreed that she will be sending the lesson every Wednesday and topic for teacher to view in advance and plan in order to cover during OLWEUS time.

School Improvement- Members had concerns about the refrigerated air not working appropriately. The majority of the classrooms get very warm especially in the afternoon when students and teacher are in the classrooms. Classrooms temperature feels very humid and warm around 80 degrees. Anchor Charts, Poster and paper feels clammy and muggy. Mr. Mendez did shared that the person in charge had checked, but he will contact the person again.
