The Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit is a Regional Educational Service Agency created by Act102 of 1970. Through cooperation and collaboration among school districts and community agencies, the Intermediate Unit works to provide innovative, responsive and cost-effective programs to the fourteen local school districts, the Beaver County Career Technology Center, and the non public schools located in Beaver County.
The Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit operations are conducted under approval of a Board of Directors elected by Beaver County’s 126 local school board members, one representative from each of our fourteen local school districts. An Advisory Council comprised of the fourteen local school district superintendents meets monthly to review programs and services.
The Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit Administrative Offices operate between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. - Monday through Friday.

From Route #18 N (north)
Follow Route #18 N through Burgettstown and the countryside. Pass NOVA Chemical Company...Zinc Corporation of America on your left. Continue under I - 376. Continue straight past the entrance to the Beaver Valley Mall and Toys R Us on your left to the second traffic light. At the second traffic light bear right onto Brodhead Road (Route #51). Turn left at the next traffic light on to Community College Drive. (Community College of Beaver County & the Beaver County CTC signs will be on either side of the street.) At the first Stop Sign turn right onto Poplar Avenue. Go ¼ of a mile, enter the top driveway for the Beaver County Career Technology Center and take an immediate right on to the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit driveway to our building at the top of the hill overlooking the Beaver County Career Technology Center.
From Interstate #79 N (north)
Take the Pittsburgh Airport Exit from I #79 N (Parkway West/I - 376 West). Continue until you pass the Pittsburgh Airport. Follow until you reach the Center Exit (Exit #42). At the Exit Ramp Stop Sign turn right onto Pleasant Drive (MacDonald’s will be on your right). At the traffic light continue straight to the “T” intersection (O.C. Cluss will be on your right). At the Stop Sign turn leftonto Brodhead Road (Route #51). At approximately two miles you will see Papa DukesRestaurant on your right. Just beyond Papa Dukesturn right on Center Grange Road and proceed to Poplar Avenue which will be on your left. Turn left and travel approximately 1/8 of a mile turning right into the Beaver County Career Technology Center driveway and making an immediate right on to the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit driveway to our building at the top of the hill overlooking the Beaver County Career Technology Center.
From Interstate #79 S (South)[Approximately travel time: 40 minutes. Toll road]
I #79 S to I #80 W; I #80 W to Exit #1 — Route #60 S (toll road);(Route #60 S becomes I – 376 East) to Monaca/Shippingport which is the first exit after crossing the Ohio River. From the PA Turnpike (Approximately 30 minutes to the BVIU)
Exit 1A— Route #60. Take Route #60 S Toll Road (Route 60 S becomes I – 376 East.) Follow to Monaca/Shippingport exit which is the first exit after crossing the Ohio River. From Pittsburgh
Parkway West (I - 376 W) past the Pittsburgh International Airport. Continue until you reach the Center Exit. From PA Exit #3 ... CranberryTownship
From Exit #3 of the PA Turnpike take Route #19 North. Go to the second traffic light (the Cranberry Mall will be on your left) and turn left onto Freedom-Crider Road. Follow Freedom-Crider Road approximately eight (8) miles until you reach the very bottom of the hill in Freedom. At this “T” intersection, turn right at the Stop Sign and follow signs to Route #65 North. As you merge onto Route #65 North you will soon need to be in the left lane of traffic so you can turn left onto the East Rochester/Monaca Bridge. At the end of the bridge continue straight but bear Right at the fork to the Stop Sign. Turn Right onto Pennsylvania Avenue. Follow Pennsylvania Avenue through the town of Monaca following the sharp left curve onto Route #18 that expands into a four (4) lane highway. At the second traffic light, WalMartPlaza will be on your left. At the next traffic light the Beaver Valley Mall will be on your right. Continue past the Mall to the next set of lights (Kings Restaurant will be on your left.) Proceed straight at this traffic light, which becomes Brodhead Road (Route #51). Proceed straight on Brodhead Road to the next traffic light where you will turn left on to Community College Drive. (Community College of Beaver County & the Beaver County CTC signs will be on either side of the street.) At the first Stop Sign turn right onto Poplar Avenue. Go ¼ of a mile, enter the top driveway for the Beaver County Career Technology Center and take an immediate right on to the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit driveway to our building at the top of the hill overlooking the Beaver County Career Technology Center.

The Joint School Board is composed of one hundred and twenty-six(126) school directors in the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit. The primary function of the Joint School Board is to approve the budget for the NewHorizonSchool debt service expenditures (rentals and Authority Board expenses) and to decide upon future proposals for expansion of facilities for the NewHorizonSchool.

The Joint School Committee is composed of a school board representative and an alternate from each of the fourteen (14) school districts in the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit. The primary function of the Committee is to approve payment of the New Horizon rental to the trustee, upon authorization of the Joint School Board. In addition, its original function was to employ the architect, select the bonding company, administer the financing of the building and to set up the Authority Board.

The Beaver County Special School Authority Board is comprised of one (1) non-school board representative designated by each of the fourteen(14) local school boards in the Beaver Valley Intermediate Unit. The Authority’s primary function was to oversee construction of the NewHorizonSchool and authorize payment to contractors for construction and for other related expenses.
