Scholarship Instructions
2016-2017
Please follow these directions.
- Proofread your application. Check for punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure errors.
- Ask for references early. Do not wait until a week or so before the applications are due. If you verbally ask your instructors, faculty or employer, follow up with an email reminder to them and then check with them again. Remember to send them a thank you card, not a text or email.
- Review: did you sign the contract, did you follow the directions correctly, and is your penmanship legible?
- The Foundation Office will begin accepting applications starting January 4, 2016.
- Thank you cards or letters will be expected to the donors of the scholarship you might be awarded.
Application deadline will be Monday, March 14, 2016 by 5:00 p.m. Please turn it in to the Foundation Office in Hyatt Smith, room 111 and not the Business Office or Student Services. You can also mail it to:

Please do not call or email the foundation office to see if you were awarded a scholarship. You will be notified before the end of the spring semester.

___ ALBRECHT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP: The primary purpose of this scholarship is to assist people from Rock County, Wisconsin who have handicaps or are disabled, to receive post high school education. This scholarship is a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, Inc. Documentation must be provided. GPA: minimum of a 3.0 based on 12 or more credits.
___ALLEN SCHOLARSHIP: Funding is from the Harris and Marion Allen Foundation.
Must maintain a 3.0 or better.
___ALLIANT ENERGY SCHOLARSHIP: Funding is from the Alliant Energy Foundation. Applicant must be enrolled full-time in the Engineering program. Preference is given to minorities or under-representedgroups, or for a woman in a non-traditional area of study, showing financial need and must show proof that they are a customer of Alliant Energy. Must maintain a 3.0 average based on 12 or more credits.
___ANNA SCHENKER SCHOLARSHIP: This is for a new student, under the age of 22 years. Preference is given to a student who has lost a sibling. Anna was a student who died in a car accident. Her family established this memorial to honor her. A 3.0 GPA is required.
___ART DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship, a gift from an anonymous donor is awarded to a student pursing their love of art, by enrolling in more than six credits. This scholarship is only awarded when funding is available. A 2.50 GPA is required.
___ATWOOD SCHOLARSHIP: Both Dan and Karen were members of the UW-Rock County faculty. They feel strongly about the value of a college education. This is for a new or continuing full-time student.A 3.0 GPA is required.
___BLACKHAWK GOLDEN “K” KIWANIS SCHOLARSHIP: This is a local service club of retired professionals. Recipient must be a Janesville resident and maintain a 2.50.
___EAGLES FOR HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP: This scholarship is funded by Travis Sommerfeldt. Requirements are being a current graduate of a Rock county high school, majoring in art, graphic design, multimedia design or art therapy and maintaining a 3.0 GPA.
___HEAT SCHOLARSHIP: This is funded by the Westgate Homeless Education Action Team. The recipient needs verification or certification of homelessness from their high school. This can be for full-time or part-time with a 2.50 GPA. The preference is given to a Craig or Parker Student.
___HORNBOSTEL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP: (LLOYD) Hap and Julia Hornbostel established this endowed scholarship to honor Julia’s life work of a long-time faculty member at UW-Rock County. This scholarship is meant to encourage talented students to excel in their studies in pursuit of their undergraduate degree in the liberal arts. The student must be full-time with a GPA 3.0. The award is not to exceed half of the tuition amount per student year.
___JANESVILLE NOON ROTARY SCHOLARSHIP: The Rotarians are a service organization of business professionals. GPA must be 3.0 or better.
___LARS CHRISTIANSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP, A COMPONENT OF THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF SOUTHERN WISCONSIN, INC.: Lars was an English Professor at UW-Rock County and became very supportive of those talented students who enrolled in his courses. The indicators to be taken into account are class rank in high school and college, ACT or SAT scores, on the Dean’s List, critical acclaim for artistic performances and painting, and outstanding performance in affairs and competitions. The student must maintain a GPA 3.0 and be enrolled full-time. Half of award received will be after the add/drop date.
___MERCY HEALTH SYSTEM SCHOLARSHIP: This is awarded to a student seeking a degree in the medical field. A GPA of 3.0 must be maintained.
___MOWBRAY SCHOLARSHIP: The recipients must be full-time students, residing in Southern Wisconsin with a preference to students living in Rock or Green County. The student must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better. The donors, Charles and Carolyn, require a written acknowledgement (thank you card or letter) from the recipient. There will be a scholarship for a new student and a scholarship for a continuing second year student.
___PARTNERSHIP FOR PARENTS: The P4P program is funded locally from individual donations and Janesville corporations including HUFCOR and Freedom Plastics. This is for a new or continuing student who is a single parent enrolled full-time or part-time with an annual salary meeting Federal low-income guidelines. The recipient must be employed and maintain a 2.75 GPA.
___UW-Rock County Foundation: In keeping with the Foundation’s mission, this scholarship provides students with financial assistance. The recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be part-time or full-time.
___Woman-to-Woman Scholarship: This scholarship is funded by women in Rock County to assist other woman. The recipient can be full-time or part-time, is a non-traditional student over the age of 21 and has financial need. The recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA.
___ZONTA AND UW-ROCK COUNTY FOUNDATION “WOMEN WITH A VISION” SCHOLARSHIP: This is for a single female parent demonstrating financial need and having completed 12 credits of post-secondary education, pursuing a degree that produces a life sustaining wage, maintain a minimum of 2.75 GPA and enrolled in at least 12 credits per semester. Applicants must be legal US residents and willing to work in Rock County for three years after college graduation.
