Job Purpose: To conduct research, publish and disseminate results, obtain research grant/contract income and supervise postgraduate students and research staff so as to enhance the research reputation of the Faculty and University; to teach in the discipline area of Water Resources Engineering at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including development of courses, materials and methods of delivery; and to participate in the leadership and management of the Academic Unit.
Key Accountabilities/Primary Responsibilities / % Time
To develop and sustain the national and international reputation of the Academic Unit and Faculty in the area of Water Resources Engineering, both generally and in the chosen area of specialisation. / 10
To sustain a major programme of research. Act as Principal Investigator on projects. Publish in leading international peer-reviewed journals; lead a research team including research staff and postgraduate students; support a research programme/group by leading major proposals and obtaining significant external funding; and to contribute to the research strategy, quality and volume of the Academic Unit. / 40
To develop and deliver a range of teaching and assessment processes including lectures, tutorials and other activities as appropriate, in fulfilment of the Faculty's teaching objectives. To contribute to the development of teaching and learning strategies and to take a leading role in setting of strategic objectives for teaching and research related to the specialisation and more generally. / 20
To carry out administrative duties as allocated by the Dean of Faculty, Head of Academic Unit and/or Head of Group, and to participate in the leadership and management of the Academic Unit / Faculty. Such duties may include, for example, chairing major committees, being Director of a postgraduate programme, participating in the Academic Unit management group, representing the Academic unit within and outside the University, acting as appraiser and mentor to other staff, and being Head or Deputy Head of a Research Group or Academic Unit. / 20
To engage in external academic activities in accordance with the Faculty's research strategy to enhance our international research profile in Engineering and the Environment. Such activities may include, for example, membership of committees of academic or professional bodies, external examining, journal editorships, paper and research grant application reviews, membership of government advisory committees. / 10
Internal & External Relationships: (nature & purpose of relationships)
Membership of Academic Boards, Examination Boards and of Faculty committees relevant to their education, research and administrative duties. Responsible for: developing strong and synergistic relationships with relevant research groups within the Faculty of Engineering and Environment and elsewhere in the University; building networks with other related academic groups in UK and global academia; establishing working relationships with relevant UK and global industrial partners.
Special Requirements:
Able to travel both nationally and internationally.

- Degree in Engineering or a closely related subject
- PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in Water Engineering or a closely related subject
- Teaching qualification (PCAP or equivalent) or membership of Higher Education Academy
- Significant track record of published research
- Membership of JBM professional institution[1] or equivalent professional body / ü
