Information for Visiting Students from Overseas for the Academic Year 2002/2003

1. How to apply

Forms which are requested:

Antrag auf Zulassung zum Studium (Application Form for Admission to Studies, you can get this form as pdf-file, see: www.uni-stuttgart.de/ia/).

The following must also be attached to this form:

- a transcript of university courses

- 2 passport photos

-  German language requirement - prerequisite: proof of 4 years or 800 hours of coursework in German

-  or proof of 1 year or 250 hours of coursework in German AND participation in the intensive German course at the Universität Stuttgart (see No. 3),

2. Cost of living

Monthly cost of living expenses about 450,- to 500,- EUR

including:

Accommodation about 150 to 225,- EUR

Health Insurance (compulsory): about 50,- EUR

- To avoid a lot of inconveniences we recommend to take out a

student health insurance in Germany, which covers medical fees

for visiting a doctor, hospital expenses and medicines

(application forms available at the IA).

Semesterticket (for public transport) about 133- EUR

Student administration fee (per semester): 59, - EUR

3. Intensive German Course

The Universität Stuttgart offers an intensive German language course for exchange students within partnership and ERASMUS programs. Prerequisite: 250 hours of coursework in German. Application forms are available from Ms. Kathrin Schwalb.

4. Orientation Program

We expect of our exchange students to participate in our orientation program subsequent to the intensive German course. The seminar will be on campus. Application forms are available from Ms. Kathrin Schwalb.

5. Accommodation

The Office of International Affairs can arrange housing for the exchange students in student dorms on request. Please contact Ms. Kathrin Schwalb who can provide you with the application forms. The application for a dorm room must be sent to the Office of International Affairs not later than three months prior to your arrival date.

6. Academic Calendar

Lecture period in the winter semester: October 14, 2002 to February 15, 2003

Lecture period in the summer semester: April 28 to July 26, 2003.

Christmas vacation: December 23, 2002 to January 6, 2003.

7. Visa Regulations

Students from the EU, Australia, Canada, Japan and the US do not need a visa. They have to apply for a residence permit after their arrival in Stuttgart.

Students from non-EU countries other than mentioned above have to apply for a visa at the German consulate of their home country approximately 6 months previous to their arrival in Stuttgart.
