Section II: Faculty Sponsorship Information
This scholarship requires two (2) recommendation letters supporting the applicant as being an outstanding future music educator. A minimum of one (1) letter must be from a current Towson University Department of Music faculty member. Letters should be signed, dated, andsubmitted to Dr. Mueller’s mailbox in a sealed envelope.
Section III: Scholarship Information and Eligibility Requirements (Type)
INTRODUCTION: In the Spring of 2005, the Ben O'Brien/Music & Arts Center Memorial Endowment Fund, in honor of the memory of Mr. Ben O’Brien, was established and funded by Music and Arts Center. This scholarship, designed to help further the education of an outstanding music educator, is in honor of the memory of Mr. Ben O’Brien. Mr. O'Brien was a strong believer in the importance of public music education. Consequently he dedicated his life to providing resources, materials, and instruction aimed at supporting the efforts of music teachers, students and schools. In helping accomplish this, he founded and was the president of the largest chain of retail music stores in the Mid-Atlantic region, Music and Arts Center.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a full-time junior or senior undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Music Education major at Towson University.
- Must have an overall 3.0 GPA. Attach unofficial transcript, as a separate document, to your application.
- Must demonstrate financial need. Provide a Statement of Need and supporting documentation which shows extraordinary financial need.
APPLICATION PROCESS: A completed application includes meeting all Qualifications, as well as providing the following materials:
- PROFESSIONAL GOAL: A statement of 500 words or less addressing the importance of achieving your goal of becoming a professional music educator. Write to convince the readers of your dedication, preparation, and commitment to the field of music education. Attach as separate document to your application.
- TEACHING EXPERIENCES: A listing of teaching experiences in which you have had an opportunity to lead or guide in the musical education of others. These experiences support your being considered as an outstanding future music educator. Attach supplemental documents to your application if necessary.
