General Separating Tool Safety
- Safety glasses should be worn at all times when operating any machine?
- Never force a tool downward at pressures the machine or cutting blade cannot withstand?
- If a problem arises the operator should fix it themselves?
- The work area should be cleaned weekly?
- Flammable fluids and materials should be kept away from the operation of any separating tool?
- While cleaning the separating tools, the electrical power can be left on?
- Loose clothing should never be worn while working?
- Hands should be kept away from all pinch zones and cutting edges?
- All guards should be taken off the separating tools before an operation starts?
- Gloves, ties, rings, bracelets, and watches should not be worn while working?
DeWalt Chop Saw and Scotchman Cold Saw
- Work should be secured in the bed vise during an operation?
- Non-ferrous metals can be cut with the blade equipped in the saw?
- One should keep proper foot balance and never overreach to the back of the saw during an operation?
- Both hands must be in the secure position on the saw handle during an operation?
- The DeWalt (Yellow) chop saw requires cutting fluid during an operation?
- The Scotchman (Blue) cold cut saw should never use cutting fluid during an operation?
- The blade should never be in contact with the material when a cut is started?
- Material thinner than 18 gage in thickness should never be cut?
Dake Johnson and Grizzly Band Saw
- The tool should never be left unattended during an operation?
- The work should always be secured using the freehand method during an operation?
- The blade arm should be adjusted before an operation begins?
- Material should be installed into the vise are while the machine is running?
- Cutting fluid should be avoided from being used during an operation?
- The machine should be in the off position before making any adjustments?
Foot Shear
- The operator should keep hands and fingers away from the cutting edge?
- Metal that is thicker than 16 gauge can be cut?
- Never cut material that is less than ½” in width?
Ironworker
- Make sure all guards are in place and that all table adjustment bolts are tight?
- One should grab thework piece as it is being cut?
- Remove small pieces from the blade area with a hook and never one’s fingers?
- If a part is too large to sit on the ironworker table without your assistance, only hold the part if your hands are completely off the ironworker table and no body part could be susceptible to injury?
- Feed material in from the back-side or outfeed area of the shear?
- Always cut from the infeed table side making sure the material is under the hold-down?
- The operator’s foot must be completely removed from the pedal box after completing each cut?
- Don't allow more than 1/8" clearance between the material and the hold-down clamp?
